Reasons not to sell (dusty) Xbox?

Well, I have my Xbox now since a little more than a year.
During that time I bought well over ten games and sold them all again, leaving me with the three games that already came with the system (Halo, Midtown Madness 3, Sega GT 2002).
So what I am now trying to do is make a reasonable decision whether to keep my Xbox or not.
    I already played:
the three games above / Splinter Cell / Topspin / Halo 2 / Fable / KotOR / Deus Ex - Invisible War / Freedom Fighters / Moto GP 2 / Panzer Dragoon Orta / Chronicles of Riddick ... among others I cannot remember

I know these games will be released shortly:
Jade Empire / KotOR 2 / Forza (well, not really interested - will get GT4 for sure)

Then there are some games that are just better on the Xbox than on the PS2, for example:
Capcom vs SNK 2 (EO), since it supports 60hz and sligthly better 2d graphics
But then again there is a problem with the sticks - I would need to get at least two expensive adapters just for that game.
Of course, there are also the sports games that always look and run a little better on the Xbox, although in contrast to the PS2 version the control scheme is often rather uncomfortable due to the missing shoulder buttons.

I never used the DVD playback of the Xbox since I would need to get that stupid DVD kit for that.
The same goes for Xbox Live since I will never want to pay extra in order to be able to play games online.

I did not sell my Xbox already because I would really hate to have to buy one back just for that one super-extremely-incredible game I don?t know of yet.

So, what is the outlook on Xbox (exclusive) games in 2005 and is it worth keeping the Xbox at all (provided that I still have a PS2)?
(also regarding the fact that in 2006 or so the new Xbox will be released)

All you need for xbox is Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. SF3 with LIVE play is king. Saw your post about wanting to get the ps2 version... PFFFFT, get the xbox version instead. Check out the online gaming folder to see how busy that thread is on this forum. Then there is www.Shoryuken.com where you can play SF against other SF nuts.

I bought my xbox 2 years ago for CvS2...but if i didnt get it then, i wouldve easily splashed out on a xbox console for this game and LIVE play alone.

Orta should be reason enough, surely?

      A truly stunning game.

I'm in the process of getting rid of my XBox in a trade.

I'm keeping the 6 or 7 games that i consider must haves but from my outlook there is absolutely nothing of any interest been announced for the near future. I'll probably get another one in a year or so when they drop in price to silly levels but i just can't justify owning one at the moment.

It also has the added benefit of allowing me to keep other consoles set up all the time such as the Saturn or PCE. Which means i can play loads of ace games that otherwise i couldn't be arsed getting out.

I?m not sure about Xbox Live. Isn?t the lag killing all the fun, especially with fast paced games like SF3?
And without Live play there is not really a difference to the PS2 version, except that it requires an adapter to hook up most sticks.
But I am really tempted by CvS2 ...

Panzer Dragoon Orta just didn?t appeal to me that much. I also found it to be quite difficult and wasn?t motivated enough to spend more time to really improve my skills at the game.
Maybe if I still had the game I would play it from time to time, but as it is now I don?t miss the game that much either.

No, "the lag" is most definitely not killing the all fun on Live. Or at least, not mine. I'm clocking up 1.5 or 2 hours a night in halo2 on average (and my wife is hating me). That's what, 3 months after the game's release? I don't think anything else can come close in terms of value for money.

Other things to look forward to: Oddworld Stranger is getting some amazing reviews. Conker looks like fun.

And funny you should mention N64, GeoffD - I just picked one up with Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie & DKR for $30 - happy days :-)

Rallisport 2. My fave Xbox game of last year. Amazing in every way.

I use my daily. Xbox Media Centre streams downloaded anime from my PC to my TV, I'm currently playing through FF7 and FF9 on the PSX emu, as well as playing some classics on MAME-OX, XSNES9, and NeoGenesis.

I'm also really enjoying Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, which is installed on the Xbox HD along with many other games I play often, some of which I picked up very cheap recently - Red Dead Revolver, PowerDrome, Headhunter Redemption, and Silent Hill 4. Plus I have the greats on there, which I also play regularly - OutRun2, Orta, Halo 2 etc. lots more.

A modded Xbox is a wonderful thing. Love mine to bits.

I raelly want to like the XBox as it genuinely does have so much going for it (emus mainly), but the controller (even the S controller) hurts my hands after prolonged use. Its rumble feature is almost arthritis-inducing to me.

This is what's stopped me from getting one - I can't justify owning a console that causes me physical discomfort, whatever its good points may be. :/

I got mine free from NTL, which with hindsight was probably a good thing :-)

Certainly without the modchip it would be getting practically no use whatsoever.

To be honest the PS2 is the only console I have gathering dust at the moment, apart from my retro gear, I am getting the Dreamcast goodness tonight because we are having a gaming night, who wants to play on a console with 2 gamepad ports as standard.

I only ever use mine for watching porno DVDs.

I can't use the pad and the exclusives smell like bell cheese. Def Jam is probably my most played game on it.

Getting t3h live soon as I can't spend any money on new games/consoles for the next 12/14 months or so. I'm hoping Halo2, SFIII, CvS2, Pro Evo and Conker can keep me occupied for that long.

My PS2 lives in the cupboard. Haven't used it since Gradius 5. Useless machine.

Only consoles I have out now are my Xbox, GC, DC, and Saturn. Sat might go in the cupboard soon though, and if they ever stop making shooters for the DC then that might join it. Much as I love the DC, I've played it's games to death.

                              I like dusty threads

See it's all horses for courses. To address a couple of things in the original posts though. Adaptors -- they aren't expensive. I paid ?13 for one of them Magic-Box things and I can use DC, PS2 and Saturn controllers with it. Great! You can get a USB adaptor for about a fiver or often bundled with things (like a Maxdrive), use what you want then.

Xbox Live -- you aren't paying to play a game online, sort of. You're paying to play ALL games online. OK, PSO has a subscription but that's SEGA's fault. A gamertag gives you access to the service, voice-chat and downloadable content (which you sometimes have to pay for but you don't necessarily have to buy....). It's good fun, honest. You don't even have to play online, just upload scores or replays or whatever...

There maybe new games coming along but how about taking a look at some games available now? You seem to have hit all of the hype games so no wonder you're a bit about them. How's about something like Secret Weapons Over Normandy? Hmmm, Brute Force is really nice too, especially in co-op or hows about a top-racer in the form of Powerdrome? All three can be had for bargain prices.

There is always Steel Battalion too!
