    Theres something about Sony

Why are sony so successful? i can't get over it. The ps1 was decent despite introducing the videogame world to the mainstream and thus causing an influx of uninspired sequals and franchises. But the PS2, why? it is horrible, dreadful, probably made by satan himself. Even before it was announced people thought it was better than sliced bread, 'much more better and powerful than the dreamcast' was the opinion of most even though they hadn't played on the machine before, or actually seen it in action. Sony kept filtering these clips of of games making the impression that it's ingame footage getting people all worked up.

A couple of years later however, reality struck they were conned, this so called super machine so powerful that it could be used to fire missiles at France for a laugh was nothing more than a second rate dreamcast power wise, with a second rate dvd player built in. Those loyal enough to keep faith in sony's all powerful, world conqouring machine were spat in the face by N64 looking poor quality launch games, a stupidly high ?300 price, and a pitiful supply of machines. Most who were 'lucky' enough to get a machine found to their dismay that it didn't work- lucky them.

To this day the machine has the most abysmal line up of games and must be one of the worst consoles ever. Sony's brilliant quality control in which machines were deliberately made to break down every couple of years, the pads even more often. Sony must be pissing themselves laughing, it doesn't matter how bad their machine is or that they continue to spit in the consumers face, their product is still treated like gold. Nintendo would get slaughtered for doing this.

Sony are everything thats wrong with the videogame industry.

You will probably get slated for posting this? but I agree with you? in some ways.

I don?t understand how Sony brain wash people. I've met so many people that have told me they only buys Sony products.

If you can't look at anything objectionably, including Sony, you'll never answer the question "Why are Sony so successful?"

It's a good console with some good games, and like all consoles it has some dross.

Sony are successful because they can sell what they produce. They understand the market, know how to cater for it and know how to treat it.

Sega and Nintendo don't know how to sell, even though they also produce both good and bad games.

I think it's fair to state that Nintendo no longer understand the home game market, as it's changed significantly since the SNES, but Nintendo haven't changed with it.

They still have the handheld market, but they're about to receive a right kicking because most people don't want a tacky silver-plastic device in their hands with a touch screen. They want something that looks cool, and Sony is giving them what they want.

Sony know how to sell their brand and reach their target audience. Thats why they have the highest installed user base.

              It's really that simple.

I think Apple must use a similar device, to be honest though they do make good hardware in the main, but there consoles haven't been fantastic or groundbreaking, I guess its all about PR at the end of the day. I am sure we all remember the 'emotion' engine, spin. We all now know it was bull at the time everyone thought it would do all sorts and developers would have an easy life *lol*

Sony, by genre, has always had better equivalents on it's consoles.

                  The exceptions are:

                  FPS
                  Platformer

If you think the only games that Sony has had are sequels and softcore EA titles then you're mistaken.

No uninspired titles as well such as the getaway (worst game ever), killzone (bollocks), state of emergency (cack), tekken 4 (why?), i could go on forever, but i actually get more enjoyment out of a atari jaguar than i did when i owned a ps2.

My sister and her b/f bought a PS2, then told me expecting me to congratulate them on their purchase. I asked them why they hadn't bought a Cube or Xbox, as they are more powerful platforms.

Their response, "we thought PS2 was the most powerful? It's the most expensive isn't it?".

Marketting I guess, and image. PS2 looks like a cheap bit of hi-fi kit. Cube looks like a lego brick and the Xbox just looks wrong. Add to that the superior Sony marketting and a few key exclusives - GTA and Gran Turismo, and you have your answer.

The enlightened will play Half Life 2, Halo 2, Wind Waker, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2 and many other amazing games that are unavailable on PS2, but until Ninty and MS get their act together on the image front those games will not be in the hands of Billy Mainstream.

It's the way of the world, same with movies and music. Marketting sells, not quality.

Paul, despite the negativity, Nintendo still make fun games that a core audience still want to play. That audience is big enough for them to still post a profit. So they're not nearly as doomed as some like to make out.

Personally I'm glad they haven't chose the route of ultra realism, FPS and bloody squad based shooters that most devs have embraced. I'd much rather play "kiddy" Mario Kart, Yoshi and Made in Wario.

As for the success of Sony, they saw a need in the mid 90's, tapped into it, made games cool and now, to the outsider, all games machines are Playstations.

nope not a big fan of any of the current three consoles really, more of a saturn/neo geo fan if any. truth is that i like great games no matter if it's on a jaguar, 2600, ps1, or dreamcast, the ps2 just doesn't have that.
