It'll be on UMD first, but there'll be a DVD release as well. Theres also talk of a cinematic release in Japan.

Absolutely it will be on DVD. Square are not going to spend that much money on a movie and then release it onto a format only a tiny amount of people can use.

And for something so beautiful and packed with detail, it desperately needs a cinema release. Something I doubt we will have the pleasure of enjoying here though.

I suspect most of us here will follow the same route - fansubbed xVid then official US DVD.

Unlikely. Most Japanese DVDs don't, especially ones where US distribution is already lined up.

But you can be sure it will be fansubbed.

In some cases the fansubs are even a hell of a lot better translated than the "official ones" found US or European licenced dvds.

am looking forward to the film myself. thought that FF Spirits Within was pretty amazing.

running time is not always a determing factor in wether or not the film sees a cinametic release.

Razz, I would say that it is fairly likely the DVD would have. Most larger Japanese releases (of films) seem to have English subs on them these days with some annoying exceptions....In this case, the subs are possibly being done at the same time (and subbing is not as big a task as localising an FF game) so I think they might. I hope so anyway. I expect the JP DVD will be expensive though.....
