It looks like it's one of the Virtual On games on the Samba cabinet but it's so blurry I can't tell (I'm sure someone like Cacophonus would know). Maybe I should try playing Virtual On on the Dreamcast with my maracas and see what unfolds.

On a vaguely related note, does anyone know of any UK arcades that have Drummania? I've been dying to play it for ages and I'm half way to importing a home setup, but wouldn't mind giving it a test run first........

Yep Namco Station, in London, South Side of the river, keep walking on from the Tate Modern towards the London Eye. Second door on the left.

Have you played any of those games for any great length of time?, I can assure you that games like pop' n music, beatmania and guitar freaks etc have as much to offer as any other games in any other genre you could mention. Not only are they incredibly fun and rewarding to play but some of them offer as much if not higher a challenge than any beat em up, arcade racer or scrolling shmup, just because they have a seemimgly novel controllers does not make them novelty games.

I've been playing Beatmania IIDX constantly for over 2 years now and I'm nowhere near mastering it (even the best players in the world can't pass certain songs) it's the most rewarding game I've ever played and it's also a game that's held my interst more than any other title I can remember, for someone to tell me it's not a "proper" game not only smacks of sheer ingorance but it's also pretty damn insulting. I'm sure others on this board that play these games on a regular basis would feel the same.
yes basically the same game rehashed 50 something times with different input methods = genius, sorry I said anything.

Stick me on the 'thinks it's genius' pile. Until you play the games more than a few times there's no way you can appreciate them, and just how addictive and playable they are. Given the fact that the input method is the basis for the entire game, changing it vastly changes the game, and every one of them feels unique.

I could spend weeks in that arcade I think

Isn't the one in in Namco just MTV Drumscape which is a piss poor Drummania copy?, I think the only place in the UK that would have the real thing would be Barry Island in Wales which is reknowned for having imported Bemani stuff.

                    All those IIDX machines...

Brilliant stuff, any idea where it's located Nisa? There are a few similar arcades in Shibuya that I remember, but never saw this one.

The address for the place is as follows (supposedly)
                        "オレンジハットとなみインター店
                        富山県砺波市太郎丸2-134

                        (Orange Hut Tonami Inter)
                        (Toyama-ken, Tonami-shi, Taromaru 2-134)

Toyama ken is north of Gifu Prefecture...next to Niigata Prefecture"

And here's a map which like the above location summary makes no sense to me whatsoever http://www.mapion.co.jp/c/f?uc=1&nl=...ark_loc,0,,,,&

Hahaha, what's Toby doing in that shot.

And yeah, Fun Harbour (Barry Island) has Percussion Freaks 3rd, which is as good as it gets drum-mania wise without having to get a flight first.
