For me personally, I was more referring to the period where certain magazines and interests took it upon themselves to set an agenda against this all-consuming 'hardcore', who were apparently against change, commercialisation and a potentially expanding demographic. I wasn't really referring to the article in here.

I'm just hope we're past all that in the UK now at least. Like you say, there's no denying some people like to express obscure and awkward tastes/opinions for the sake of doing so, but the import market is incredibly diverse. There are those who only import big titles, those who import quirky releases, those who import games which don't see release here, and those who import to play the latest releases as quickly as they can.

Not everyone does so due to a region-based preference, or because they're anti-west and against those ever so familiar big bad wolves, EA et al.

I love OutRun 2 more than life itself, but according to the success of NFSU2, the majority of british gamers don't agree with me. How can so many people be so wrong

Have many people have a passion for games? The average casual gamer just buys the big names and has a laugh. Serious gamers are like anyone with a passion for something, they revel in what they love and enjoy.

Not many people are film-buffs, just look at how much light-weight fluff makes Hollywood rich; it seems that most people just go with the flow and don't take things as seriously as some people do.

I am a very serious gamer( maybe too obsessive) but its all or nothing with me, I can't shake off my passionate devotion to games. Try as I might, there is no way I can become casual about videogames; i.e. you will never see me buying NeedForSpeedUnderground or the like!

I think it's time for some Outrun2; a game that makes me smile with it's ambient atmosphere full of charm and purity.

I don't think it's simply to do with the mass-market preferring NFSU to Outrun 2 - most of them probably haven't given the latter a chance. Mainstream gamers could very well like Outrun 2 more if they allowed themselves to get into it, but when ?40 is at stake, they'd sooner stick to what they know than take a risk on something that's not quite as good at appealing to their boy-racer sensibilities.

This is why something as decent as Frequency or Ico won?t sell very well. Gamers may like the idea of it, or even be slightly tempted by reviews they?ve read, but when it comes to handing over cash they?ll always remain confident in trusting the same old stuff they?ve enjoyed before. This habit is responsible for the success of practically all major franchises. It?s got a lot to do with how EA gets away with its yearly Fifa updates.

(Thinking about it, how many times have all you hardcore gamers bottled out of a risky purchase of a praised game when it was first released? Only to then bag it later in a sale or second hand before going on to praise the crap out of it on forums and attack casual gamers for not supporting the game when it needed the sales most?)

Conversely, although not to the same extent so to even out the sales balance, self-proclaimed hardcore gamers won?t ever give time to certain franchises that may seem too mainstream, regardless of actual quality. This is why a lot of gamers chose to abandon the Burnout franchise as soon as EA commercialised the **** out of number 3.

Yeah... If I was casual it would mean going in my local Game having a look at the Top10 and buying a title from a genre I like. If it happened to be a racer I was after then the promo for NFSU2 would be everywhere, it would be at no1 in the charts and basically it would be totally in my face wherever I turned. The ultimate result of this would be me buying the game.

I think casual gamers enjoy NFSU. I know a few people that like it and whilst they don't rave about it, it sure does what they want it to do; i.e. provide easy thrills.

Casuals gamers are an easy-going bunch, they buy whatever is hyped the most and most of the time I guess they are happy.

I have nothing against EA, but the fact that NFS1 on the 3DO is still regarded as the best iteration of the franchise says a lot. The average gamer doesn't care though, they would think serious obsessive gamers are just a sad bunch.

There's no point in picking at the casuals though, or being ashamed of being hardcore. Both groups enjoy games, but to a different degree.

I won't discuss BO3 though, lets just say the word ' gutted ' springs to mind.

Can I take a guess? Based on the quality of the copy, I'd say about five minutes. Also, why did you need an excuse to put it in the mag anyway? gamesTM is a games magazine isn't it? Of course, I forgot, you must stick rigidly to that trusted news/previews/reviews/retro formula, if you stray too far away from that you'd lose "the magic".

Seriously, Suzuki Bakuhatsu is such a nice game, but you've sold it so short. Who is responsible for this 'piece'? Was it that Scottish fellow or YOU! Heads must roll.

I know (and have produced) listless videogame journalism, but this really takes the biscuit. Has the writer actually played the game? The text reads as though it's been knocked out by somebody who once spoke to a bloke who once had a pint with another bloke who had shared piss streams with ANOTHER bloke who had once played the game. Surely you can do better?

Next time your're going to do something like this why not A: Find somebody who knows what they're talking about and B: Make sure they can write. Go on, try it, it might even boost your circulation in the *cough* long term.

You stay away from Edge, you little tadpole. You're talking about the magazine I love(d) (until the redesign, ho ho). It's got it's own problems at the minute so you just stand back.

As for all of the above, I am, of course, only joking. OR AM I?

                              Shocking, really shocking.

Welrain, I presume you're not reading this my chum, but for what it is worth I've added you to my buddy list. If you like **** videogame journalism then drink deep.

Concept/Razz, this is not a snipe, I've explained why I didn't like the Suzuki Bakuhatsu piece and suggested how it could have been improved.

Baad Boy You Sir, are easily amused

Let us not make this nasty now, please.
