I assume this is Game Boy news? (im not giving spong the pleasure of a hit on thier website). Nintendo have said mutliple time the DS is a 3rd machine, not a GB replacement, why people can't seem to understand this I don't know.

The DS is a lovely little machine and the fact that it is more than holding its own against the mighty PSP speaks volumes about Nintendos strong position in this market (also about Sony's total lack of stock).

It's the GBA2 that will really compete with the PSP. DS I think appeals to a somewhat different market.

I think we all knew the DS wasnt the next GBA. We didnt need SPong or Spaff or whatever they are called to tell us really, did we.

It seams like people here do not read other topics/forums so i will explain again.....

The DS is NOT a Gameboy, do you seriously think Nintendo is about to ditch a brand that has sold well over 100 million units worldwide? its like Sony all of a sudden ditching the Playstation it is not going to happen.

Nintendo did not call the unit the Gameboy DS for a reason, had they have done so they would have confused gamers and parents who buy the games when the GBA2 comes out and also because the DS is not part of the Gameboy family.

The Nintendo DS is 100% diffrent to Gameboy as it is all about the way we interact with games and Nintendo have said that from day 1.

The DS will sit alongside the GBA2 and the Revolution and with what is already in the pipeline i can see the DS sales being strong for many years to come. The reason of the inclusion of the GBA slot on the DS was to wind down sales of the SP partly because of a new GBA2 and partly to transfer portable fans over and offer them soming new.

Over the next year you will see a change in the focus of DS software (its starting already) you will have more games like Pac Pix, Nintendogs, Feel The Magic that just can't be done anywhere on any other console. At the moment the Ds has a couple of ports this is partialy because nothing was ready and partly because they wanted to give the console an established brand to launch with as well as adding new ones like One Line Puzzle, and Band Brothers.

If you are ever in doubt about something you read online do the following test

                1) Is it on spong.com?

If you answered yes then treat as made up rubbish.

Its implyed by the title (DS obsolete already?)

The pojnt i was making is was that the DS and GBA are seperate brands, people seamed to think the DS was the GBA 2 and i was saying that they would have been stupid to drop the gameboy brand.

I did go off on one a bit but i am sick of people slating Nintendo for no reason a prime example of this was the Snowboard Kids thread in the headline forums. Everybody assumed that it was a port and we got the usual Nintendo are about ports and nothing else, but after doing research into it it was found out the game was infact not a port, and elsewhere on the forum people started with the DS is a gimmik. If people don't like ports and are not open to new ideas i can't see their being any way to please them and it is started to get to me.

For me its always about the games and i will go where the entertainment is but too many people on the forum are about image over fun factor.

The DS is not a part of the 'Gameboy' lineage: - true.

People will continue buying DS if another Gameboy is released: - open to debate.

These arguments should be kept distinct. An early GBA2 release could indeed make the DS 'obsolete' in the mind of the consumer, regardless of how Nintendo choose to categorise their handhelds.

This is the second time a duplicate thread has gone unchecked.

                        Evidently, the mods are sleeping.
