Xbox Pad - What is it good for?

Hi all, i know this may incite some old wars but owning both a PS2 & Eggbox (Xbox, damn that advert) I find the PS2 pad comfier and more suited to 2d fighters, Tony Hawks & GTA: Vice City to name a few. Talking to an Xbox fanboy he spoke nothing but praise for the Xbox s-pad but i get cramp using it, so I was wondering if I was the only one who felt that way or do the PS2 & Xbox owners of the site prefer the larger pad (I've never used) or the smaller Xbox s-pad to the PS2 one. If you prefer different pads for different games please elaborate. Thank you for reading this prolly annoying little post from a curious gamer.

I find both vers of the xbox pad uncomfortable after prolonged periods of play, but tbh, it's an absolute dream if you use the Jaguar or CD32 pads first

Big Xbox pad = perfect for FPS's and Racing games

Usless for pretty much everything else tho

I hate using the original Xbox controller. It's like trying to play a video game holding an American Football. And the S-controller is better, but I still dislike it. Sony and Nintendo have better controllers. the GCN controller just melts into my hands and I forget I'm holding it. PS2 I know I'm holding it the entire time but it's not uncomfortable.

I guess you don't play beat-em ups much. I'd take the S controller over the GC pad anyday.

i have to say that i prefer the s-controller over the ps2 pad. i did think the ps2 pad was superb, but after using the xbox then switching back, wow i was surprised just how light it was and absolutely no 'feel' to it, no real feedback and the analogue sticks are a bit of a joke compared to the xbox ones. its a shame the xbox one doesn't have shoulder buttons mind, the triggers are superb, just sometimes wish there were another set of buttons above them, i definately think that sony got that right
guess it comes down to the type of games you play
it'll be interesting to see just how much each party feels they can tweak n change their respective pads for their next console launches, especially nintendo, as theirs appears very very highly regarded.
                  regards

I dislike all the pads; I think the makers should put simplicity first, because they seem to be too ambitious and we end-up with stupid joypads.

The Xbox pads do my head and hands in. I don't feel in full control, always struggling and with a numb feeling; though the big one is ok for racers.

Anyone get a sense of deja vu here? It's like we've just gone back in time by 3 or 4 years!

For what it's worth, IMO the PS2's d-pad is a crime against gaming, it's analogue sticks are incredibly wooly and unresponsive, and it lacks proper triggers - an essential item for any driving game. For me, it's far and away the worst pad since abominations such as the CD32 and the Jaguar. I even prefered the DC's pad, and that was a shockingly bad piece of design.

Controller S is great aside from the mediocre dpad. GC pad even better but has an even worse dpad.

Ps2 Pad-Racing and GTA style games
                        Controller S-Fighting and FPS
                        GC Pad-Platformers

The PS2 pad is slightly more comfy to the hands but that Dpad is unforgivable

I first got a GC and thought the pad was great. Perfect size and works a dream for the likes of monkey ball.

Then got a PS2 and thought that the dual shock 2 is a dual shock 1. I just really dislike it. The only game that I think it does better than the other 2 is tony hawks.

The XBOX s pad is a dream. For FPS's and driving games it's unrivaled. I also love it for 2d fighters( but it still can't touch the MD 6 button official pad).

I have been playing GT4 over the last few days and I can't help but think that the game is severely disabled by the pad. The analogues are too wooly to be of use and the d-pad too innacurate. I'm getting arm ache from pressing the face buttons hard enough to ensure that I am at full accel. when I want to be.

I wonder how good GT4 would be on an XBOX pad and I shudder to think what the PS2 pad would do to PGR2.

For me the XBOX s-pad is the pad of choice. Proper triggers are a godsend.

I just wish the console makers stopped combining Analogue and D-pad and just made an excellent analogue pad, with a cool digital joypad as an optional extra.

Its the only way people are going to be happy.

I disagree about GTA, you can actually drive at the speed you want on the Xbox due to the triggers being used for accelerate.
