Sky News take on the DS

I thought quite a fair and balanced review.

    Fair enough.

I think the deal so far is that the DS shows some serious potential, what we have had physically so far has been promising.

Yeah i agree however Pac Pix, and Wario use the technology well and are great games.

That was just really positive. I concur with a lot of what was said, mind: Project Rub

Shock, a reasonable DS review from mainstream press. This guy actually sounds like he has played on one.

Blimey, they even mention the wireless. I think thats the first mainstream media review of the DS that's mentioned that! (still reeling from the hatchet job the The Gadget Show did on it)

Did anyone watch the ' Gadget Show Channel 5' the other day. They dismissed the DS as cheap and tacky, favouring the PSP saying it is fantastic in every way and will go down as a design classic.

Both guys were mid 40's and one said he would be buying his young daughter a PSP because the DS is just flimsy crap.

I like both machines, and the show made me angry. ft:

Good review, sums up how I feel about the machine.

I'd love to see them fix the DS form factor, make it as tiny as possible, make it feel like a quality product. Kind of strange how Nintendo were able to make the Gamecube so small (compared to it's competitors), and yet the DS has ended up like a breezeblock. (well, almost)

The cost of rushed development I suppose.

Kudos to the reviewer. The first article in a while I have seen that paints the DS in a positive light. If this is seen by people sitting on the fence or waiting for a PSP this might just convince them. Nice one.

Well, with the DS, they want to make a profit on it, and with all the really cool features, they must have had to have made some sacrifices. I agree it's ugly, but there is a lot in it. Money is the bottom line I suppose.

                      I suppose we're waiting on a DS:SP ;P

I don`t think it even looks that ugly tbh. Ok so the plastic is abit tacky compared to the psp but on the flip side at least it doesn`t show all your fingerprints. Plus they got the design pretty much spot on with the L/R buttons well placed, clam shell design for screen protection and well placed speakers. Only thing i don`t really like about the design is that the sides dig into your hands slightly. Besides that, it does it`s job well.

I think it could really be a lot smaller. So much dead space around the screens, and it's a fatty too.

It does the job, and it's good value for money though.

Ninty have already hinted they are revising the design. I hope they are, not just for selfish reaons of wanting something smaller but also as I think it would really help them against PSP. Already reviewers are writing off DS as being cheap looking, ignoring it's innovations and great games.

They will not revise the design, where did you hear that?

They maybe looking for a sleek and sexy design for the GBA2 though.

I think the DS needs to be the size it is, to effectively accomodate the touch screen as a control method.
