    Speed Runs

I dug out my Super Famicom the other day, and started to play Mario 1 on the Super Mario Collection. Whilst playing, I realised that I was just running as fast as I could, and decided to have a go at speedrunning the whole game. I didn't do it perfectly, but I managed it in 15 minutes with a couple of restarts.

Then I tried Ghouls and Ghosts. That took me 4 weeks.

So here's the thread to post links to amazing speedruns, and to possibly obtain the motivation to do your own.

^^ That site has some awesome speedruns, and is kept well up to date.

5 hour speedrun of Ocarina of Time is worth watching just because it's OoT. Awesome stuff. I found a Ghosts and Goblins speedrun not long ago too, but I can't find the link to it again. It was scary stuff, that guy had the most amazing ninja reflexes

Only speed run I've ever bothered with is Resi 2.

    52mins. Scenario A.

I remember seeing an insane done-in-45-minutes video speed run through Half-Life once.

Does that site videos still leave the cutscenes in?

Cos i cba to complete Resi 0, and i wouldnt mind sitting and watching a speed run. I got to disc 2 and i was meant to return to it later...but i never did.

            So it is.

Half-Life 2 has also been done in three hours, but it doesn't sound quite as impressive, does it?

To be honest, while I enjoy watching speed runs (and demonstrations of gaming skill) I don't like taking part in them myself. I only play games I really enjoy these days, and running through them in the blink of an eye is like wolfing down a delicious meal.

              It's somewhat missing the point.

I suppose I'm a sucker for savouring the experience of playing through certain games too much.

Yeah, but obviosley these players have savoured the game, learnt as much as possible about it by playing the game "properly" before attempting these speed runs.

Tbh, I want to see a FF7 speed run with all the cutscenes intact...cos i never got round to playing it, or had the time or had a playstation back then.

I know. I was speaking more from a personal angle.

I kind of have a mental block from trying to complete the likes of FFVII in ten hours.

I need to implant myself into a game, and learning every inch of it and rushing through repeatedly to hone the art would drive me crazy.

                    Well done!

Ive played P.N.03 and MGS3 for a speed run and Resi for the final costume.

Other games ive played quickly but those are the only ones ive rushed through.

Aye, it's not often I post something gaming related.

I can see where you're coming from Concept. I always play games through slowly first time, take it all in. If the game is that fun though, there's always more to do, and that's where speed running comes in! Have you not tried going back to Super Mario World and trying to finish it as quick as possible? It's really quite fun, it's like time trialling but on any game you want.

I'm too **** to do it properly though.

As far as speed runs go, everything pales in comparison to Quake Done Quick With A Vengeance (qdqwav). Quake 1 done on nightmare difficulty, one life (multiple runners) in a shade over twelve and a half minutes. Nothing shows skill in control like a FPS for me.
