Best way to check for dead pixels?

Is there a certain way to check for dead pixels on a DS and PSP? Cause if I trade one of the machines I want to make sure I'm not ripping anyone off ta.

    1. Turn it on
    2. Look at screen
    3. Slap forehead for asking a silly question?

There's really no mystery to it.

Well, if you have a "dead pixel" it will appear as a dot on the screen that is either off (black) or permanently lit, which could be in any range of colours.

        Is it very noticeable?

Depends on the position and colour. I have two on my 17 inch TFT but that contains over 1 million pixels, so it is an irrelevance to me.

Download this file, un-rar it, then view the images on your PSP to check for dead pixels.

              Love it!

On the DS, I've only seen it as a lit pixel that doesn't respond to anything. Both were right in the centre of the top screen

The PSP can't handle bmps, Kubrick.

If you have so many pixels, can't you give a few to all these people moaning about dead ones? Sounds like you could spare a few no worries

It's really a non-issue, but people get so hung up about it...

                    Ah well

Hadn't tried it myself tbh. Someone gave it to me.

True. I think that it is human nature to look for flaws. I admit that I did the same when I got my screen, but I realised that there is no point in fretting over something which I have no control over, so why bother.

I think it's human nature to expect a high quality product that does what it's designed to do. The PSP + DS is designed to display images on the screen, yet these are marred by the fact that the screen isn't working correctly and failing to display the image becuase of dead pixels. My mates DS had 2 deal pixels in the centre of it, and other one I saw had 1 dead pixel, slightly off centre... They chose to put up with it, I would not have, however. If some colours simply aren't shown, or they're always one dark colour, then it's not as much a problem... however the ones I saw were both bright blue. They really took my attention from the game (although I was playing spiderman 2 which I hate too).

I suppose different people will expect different things from a console, but I'm ****ing fed up with ****ty products coming back. It's appaling. Working in Dixons, I swear, I spent about 15% of my time on returns... The odd one or two were user error, some simply didn't want the products... but the piles of broken stock we had in the stock room was beyond belief.

                        It shouldn't be flawed.

Best way is to find a game with both a pure white and a pure black background eg Ridge Racers title screen for a white background and the CG demo for a black one. Then check.

These are DP test images I tried to provide yesterday. They're now JPEGs.
