I would never ban threads like this, but it does seem like the same record is struck over and over. I dare everyone on this forum not to comment on Edge when next month's issue is released. I bet you can't do it.

Well well well, what a lot of venom. It seems that review scores are a sore subject with a lot of people.
When I'm reviewing a game naturally the score and the review reflect my opinion of the game, but it is more complex than that, as I will adjust my stance to align myself with the intended audience for that game.
I assume that Edge give out reviews, to writers who have a passion for that particular genre. Reading the comments on here makes it all the more worrying then that VF4Evo was given a 7. Surely the reviewer should have been in a position to appreciate, if not fully explore the depth of the game.
I also disagree that scores do not matter. You have to remember that most of us are old enough and wise enough not to believe everything we read. However there will be a good slice of the gaming population out there who base their purchases on the review scores of magazines such as Edge. And at 40 quid a pop I think Edge have a journalistic duty to do the best job they can, (we're not talking about a ?5 cinema ticket here).
Perhaps then it would be better for them to no longer score their reviews or draw a line under the past and start a completely new ranking system, maybe using benchmark games.

Compare that with GamesTM, who had a picture of Metroid Prime's last boss in their review.

Depends what you define as spoliers. Hints (which fans of a series) may pick up on, I consider are.
Revealing the detailed, specific structure at which the game unfolds I consider another spoiler.
I want to go into a game without knowing where I am going, or where I'll end up.
EDGE have just spoilt that for me. ><
