    Thanks for the list, Concept!

That's the sort of thing I was looking for, not "Pah, you haven't played it LAM3R!!1!!1" comments.

I'll maintain the fact that I have played it, although it looks like I only scratched the surface of it. Needless to say despite these new revelations I'd still prefer Rez for pretty much the same reasons Stu mentions above.

Still, my initial point was - it's not a system seller for me. Simple as.

Rez > PDO (imo of course )

I think that Halo 2 will be a system seller .......... I got an XBox for the original and am very happy (as are many other people)

I believe that one great game is worth 5-10 average to good ones ......... Golden Eye/Mario Kart etc lasted me years, PDO/Resi 0, whilst being good games, are over in a month or so ......... and that's that

This generation has been pretty poor for what I consider to be 'classic' games. The thought of Halo 2 makes me dribble. If a game is good enough it's worth buying the console for.

I've split the two forks in this to discussion. Please lets not try to hijack threads.

You must not be playing it properly - because the game mechanics (combo play) of PDO is totally different to Rez. It's deeper and you have to learn how and exactly when to use Glide to take enemies.

Rez is stylish but a very simplistic game - the 2 share some mechanics but are wildly different games. IMO PDO is far superior to Rez, but for a quick sesh while you are blazed Rez is where it's at - it's not a serious game.

            Where's this come from?!

Ah well, seeing as "I" asked the question, my vote goes to Rez.

Even though I obviously haven't played PDO enough.

Not a serious game, Saur?! Ooof! The madness of it!

It's not tho - the score attack side of things is so limited compared to other on rails shoot em ups like Starfox and Panzer Dragoon. I just cant take the game seriously because I feel it's not meant to be - it's simply a quick n easy fun blast (which I feel it does beautifully), but it's not something you spend months perfecting as you would Panzer Dragoon.

It's all subjective I guess. Personally I did spend a hell of a lot of time getting my scores trim. My only complaint with Rez is there's not enough of it - a few more levels would have been sweet.

PDO's nice, but Rez just does it for me. Pushes the right buttons, so to speak.

Rez is more than a game. Its a concept, its a work of art.

Despite PDO having an extra depth to its gameplay, I far prefer Mizuguchi-san's perception with Rez. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy Smilebit's PDO, because I think its a very accomplished title also.

Must admit I borrowed PDO from a mate and played it through to the second level. But it just didn`t feel as cool as Rez. I`ve got to give it back soon but to me PDO just felt a little too forced, old fashioned, something. Don`t know. Rez I loved to death, PDO didn`t do anything for me and after so many people said that the graphics were the best ever (tm) I found it quite an underwhelming game, although I wanted to love it. The entire morphing of the Dragon seemed to epitomise the game for me. It just didn`t seem to be in keeping with the you`re flying on a dragon and shooting things ethos of the game, just made it a little more unbelieveable rather than give you more choice of firepower...

                        AAARRRRRGHGHGHG,

Bugger it all to hell. I love both of these games and even though I've only sunk a few hours into PDO, I can see the depth and majesty there.

They really are totally different. Rez just makes me totally zone out. It gets to a point where I'm in the TV set, I'm not even thinking about playing, stuff is just happening. I'm lost.

Orta on the otherhand demands every ounce of concentration. Coordinating the dragons form, flightpath, direction, speed and moving the aiming recticle and firing off weapons is a real challenge. The game gives me that attack on the deathstar feeling (if you know what I mean), probably because I love the whole PD series to death.

To the casual observer both games are similar, but in terms of experience they are totally different.

Still if you asked my dad he'd probably say "They both look a lot like Manic Miner"

                          Rez is good. PDO likewise.

But I know which is deeper. I know which one I'll still be playing two or three years from now... Put it like that.

Unless they bundled it with a controller that had a completely new set of buttons.

How many people out there have been following the Panzer story? I thought I had a pretty good handle on it, until I went on one of the fan sites and discovered a ton of stuff that I'd missed. I'm simply stagged at the depth of plotting that's gone into the thing- the end of PDO is heartbreaking if you know everything that Lagi's been through... and the Hersay Program's warning in the Deep Memory Cell is one of the simplest and most effective bits of charactrisation I've seen in the series.

                                Damn it Judge!

You went and edited your post. I was about to make that Sestren/Deep Memory Cell suggestion...

Seeing the Heresy Dragon comment about Lagi's impending doom kind of brings a veil over the rest of the game, a sense of dread because you know Lagi's death is coming...

But that isn't the last the Heresy Dragon's involvement. Guess who's voice it is telling the story in between the levels.

Although in essence, Lagi killing himself is the Heresy program doing paradoxically the same thing, because it downloaded itself into Lagi from Sestren to its deeds in the mortal world in the first place.
