I have the perfect balance: my gf/fiancee loves reading, I love games. She sits down with a good book, I play... and then we do other stuff together between (going out, etc). It works, thank god - there are times I get so into a game, I just want to sit and play it all night. If it didn't work, I'd have been out on my ear a long time ago.

I got a bit addicted to x box live at first as well. And of course champ manager. Nothing to serious with the girlrfiend though jsut perhaps didnt pay her the attention she deserved sometimes.

I have a much better balance now.

The great Trundle is my hero. Although he is responsible for a spate of shocking haircuts in Swansea for the past two years.

I should also add that the new misses loves Lumines and plays Electroplankton everynight to get to sleep. Since I bought electroplankton she wont let me take the ds home. I think this one is a keeper.

Initially when I first started seeing my current girlfriend (now of 2 1/2 years) I almost completey stopped playing games, not only did I not have the time but I just completely lost interest and it didn't really bother me at all that my large console and pc games collection was just collecting dust...

These days however its a slightly different story and World Of Warcraft is eating into my girlfriend time godamnit. I do try and only play late at night when she isnt around or is asleep or on days when she is at work but I always find myself wanting more gametime .

Sometimes I get to play when she is around because she's into Lumines on PSP and of all games, Midtown Madness 3 on Xbox (also SSX3) so that keeps her happy while I go adventuring in Azeroth8)

My women doesn't mind me playing games and sometimes plays too but we have so much arranged to do together that it means it limits my play time to around 2 minutes per month.

                    Both!

I adore my girlfriend; we've been together almost three years (my longest relationship was six years back in the 90's, with a girl who very much enjoyed videogames).

My current gf likes games, she plays Yoshi Touch & Go, Zoo Keeper, Ape Escape, Next Tetris and others on her own, but sometimes we have two player sessions of Monkey Ball, Burnout, Return of the King and other stuff.

For anyone to be truly healthy and happy in a relationship they need to be able to enjoy doing stuff on their own, and with their partner, and with their mates, and with their mates and their partner all in equal measure.

Sometimes I just need to immerse myself completely in a game and forget about everything else in the world.
My partner knew of my passion for videogames before we got together and is quite happy when I want to disappear off for hours on end playing on my own, she knows that it doesn't detract from my feelings for her or our relationship.

In the words of Colin Moulding (XTC):

"Tending my fruit, tending my fruit
Ah you've got to have a hobby
A man must have a shed to keep him sane

Spraying my buds, spraying my buds
                    Got to keep away diseases
I mix the poisons and the wife don't complain"
