games that impressed me since i have been playing computer games

frost byte for the atari 2600 my first addiction

myth for the spectrum amazing game at the time though i never played it on
other formats had so many great moments

super mario brothers 3 for the nes still holds up well today

frontier elite 2 for the amiga yes it had bugs but i cannot get over the fact it was a universe on one floppy disk (and you can land on planets)

flashback for the amiga/megadrive when i first saw this my jaw dropped the cutscenes the incredible animation

gunstar heroes for the megadrive great weapons tons of bosses

weaponlord for the snes i think this was a great game lots of moves A fairly deep combo system and some brilliant fatality combo moves (which could be chained together)

guardian heroes for the sega saturn awesome game much deeper gameplay than i expected it to be wish they would release it on ps2 or another format perhaps part of a compilation

nights for the sega saturn thing i remember i think was gamesmaster (not sure though) giving this a average score for me they completly missed the point of the game its about linking and getting high scores

tekken for the psone was the game that convinced me to get a psone

golden eye for the n64 really showed how to do a fps game on the console (along with turok)

anyone else got games that were memorable to them over the years?

You're lucky you never played it on other formats! Other formats were completely different, not even the same game! I think it was my mates C64 version where it didn't even start in the graveyard, it was straight off to ancient Greece... ><

what was the reason the other format versions were different?

No idea but from what I saw it was graphically more elaborate but drastically shortened in length. Maybe that was the sacrifice they had to make? Personally I liked the tiny hero sprite on the spectrum better anyway.

Weird! The first game that popped into my head when reading the topic title was Myth for the Speccy! I remember being blown away by the quality of the animation. Thought I was the only one that lovingly remembered this....guess not.

Grim Fandango on the PC-great point and click game with loads of humour and a cracking storyline.

Shenmue 1+2-only played them at a few months ago, but the level of ambition alone impressed me alot-i'd never played an RPG like that before, still hoping for that elusive 3rd game-Xbox 360 has got to be the prime opportunity! Although the story wasn't original-the level of storytelling was brilliant. I never got bored, and it's one of the few games i've spent playing all day and night!

Championship Manager-Addictive: Not much more to say than that.

Speaking of Myth, the Amiga version really impressed me. Especially that Hades level with all the sounds of torment in the background. Or the few utterances made by the characters: the Nymph's instructions to "come closer", Odin's "Fight Mortal!" and Ankalagan's blood-curdling scream (that one always made me cringe) among others left me amazed at the game's quality at the time. Not to mention the graphics were great as well.
The wonderful visuals and music of Apidya had a similar 'wow factor' as did the Turrican games,(especially Turrican 2) Agony, R-Type, Robocod, Toki, BC Kid, Gods, First(and Second) Samurai and Leander. Even Rubicon, slow as it was, impressed me.
On the Snes I was impressed by Super Probotector, Mario All-stars, Super Turrican 2, StarFox, Super Metroid and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. And whilst I've only played an emulated version, Demon's Crest blew me away. Same with Hard Corps on the MD.
Playing Doom for the first time, I didn't think of it as simply running through corridors and shooting things, but rather wandering into a whole new world - it was a new universe to roam around in, full of stygian labyrinths and derelict space facilities. Its' denizens were vicious bloodthirsty monsters, and I was an intruder. I wandered into their domain, and they would make sure I'd never leave alive. Duke Nukem had the same effect on me as well.
In recent years, games that left me gobsmacked were Metroid Prime,(loved it for the same reasons as Doom) War of the Monsters, practically every one of Sandlot's games, the various Ps2 Ultraman games, Katamari Damacy, Stranger's Wrath and Resident Evil 4.
To be honest, I've been amazed and impressed by so many games over the years that I've lost count. Those mentioned above are the only ones that came to mind right now.

                    Shadow of the Beast (Amiga)

Robocop (Arcade).........I think because the graphics look like the movie. Good gritt.

                    Sonic 2 (pazaz!)
