    Best retro disc/compilation

Yu Suzuki Gameworks Vol.1 for me. Afterburner II, Outrun, Power Drift, Space Harrier and HangOn all on the same disc along with a huge hardback book dedicated to them. Nothing comes close frankly.

I keep meaning to get Gameworks. I guess Shenmue 1 and 2 and Made in Wario are kind of retro compilation disks, so they are great.

And you cant beat Final Burn.

Problem with these type of disks is two-fold:

      1. They are meant to be cheap, as an incentive to buy them (they are old games, after all), and therefore you get some nice bonuses with them on occasion. However, because they get small production runs by-and-large, they end up being worth more than expected or intended.

      2. The good ones never get released over here (or, at least, very rarely). See no. 1

yeah, the Gameworks one sounds excellent. I'd include all the 'Capcom Generation' releases as well, but particularly the one with Mercs/Gunsmoke etc. and the SF compilation (2 and 5, I think?)

If it's commercial discs, then I would agree with Gameworks 1, although R-Types on the Playstation comes a very close second.

BTW - has there been any announcement of a Gameworks vol. 2?

I'm after the more mainstream "Atari Arcade Hits Vol.2" on the PSOne which features Paperboy, Gauntlet, and the sublime Crystal Castles, and a coupla' others whose names, embarrasingly, have escaped me at the moment.

Hopefully Grover will be able to pick one up for me during his trip to the States..

You should try MAME-X. If it wasn't for the lack of point filtering, it would be perfect. 4-player Gauntlet 2....

Got 'em on MAME-X m8 - would just like to own a more "official" product for the PS for when the kids are hogging the 'Box

The PAL version of Capcom Generations is my top pick, 4 disks of pure Capcom classics (well nearly).

Sega Smash Pack Vol.1 is excellent - Streets of Rage 2 alongside other classics such as revenge of shinobi and virtua cop 2

I would have said this, but the sound is so mangled it falls short.

Sidez, what format is Yu Suzuki's compilation on? I remember waiting outside the arcade in Shenmue to play Space Harrier, and always staying too long, so I had to go before getting told off by gran or whoever that woman was. Great stuff. And choosing your own tracks in Outrun. Sub_lime.

The Activision Anthology deserves a mention, almost the entire back catalogue of Activisions 2600 games on one disk. Granted, you ,can fit the entire back catalogue on a floppy disk but the ammount of extras is generous.

(You even get a couple of Imagic games on there.)

                            Namco Vol.4 Jap PSone.

                            Ordyne, Assault's and Pac-Land.

It was the first sign that the format was going to be a viable 2D force for me.
