    categorys of gamers?

people i speak to in my daily life about games usually fall into some categorys

1.Very casual gamers have consoles but perhaps only play it a couple of times a week get the odd game every few months

2.Casual gamers have consoles play every day but only buy pal games usually only big name games (which is who i blame for the amount of rubbish in the charts)

3.importers who get pal games but if there impatient for a big name release they will import it

4.Hardcore importers who import big name games but also the great games no one has heard of but also appreciate the gameplay experience (such as games like psyvarier/dodonpachi/pn03 etc but if its a big name game will wait for a english language version

5.Very hardcore importers who pretty much import all there games and dont worry about the language barrier for games its just the gameplay experience there after not the story

6:Extreme importers who not only import games but games merchandise and stuff like neo geo systems and other expensive games/systems

these are the type of people i have come across any got more additions?

I'm sure you'll get a lot of replies moaning about labelling of people as casual/hardcore

I've never considered myself hardcore but I fit your description for number 4 pretty accurately, lol.

The problem is people don't very easily fit into categories. For example i reckon i've probably been in all of those categories at some point or another, ie i have a Neo Geo, merchandise etc and 90% of my games are imports so that may make me 6 but at the same time i have busy spells where i barely play, and when something like Killer 7 comes out here i probably will walk into a shop and pick it up like the majority of people so that makes me 1 too.

BAKEMONO: - sits there and effortlessly 1 lifes Shikigami no Shiro 2 using 2 joysticks/2 characters controlling them independently as if he has 2 minds and keeping the scores between the two characters identical the whole time.

          I witnessed it - I felt weak! >_<

I tend to group gamers into what they play not what they buy, at least among my crew. I'm the ologist, I like to analyse and memorise - then you got the fight heads, the tactical heads, the shoot em up heads...I have most respect for people who excel at their chosen specialty, what you buy/own means nothing.

sorry about the casual/ hardcore cliche but thats the best way i can describe the people i speak to of course many people cannot be categorized
but these categorys are based on people i have met

oh should say i fit into number 4 exactly
i remember watching a japanese guy in a tornament playing vf 4 taking on all comers he beat everyone just using the left hand for the controller and buttons it boggles the mind how much effort and play that people can put into one game

There's no appreciation of gaming skill here in the UK - play like that in Tokyo's arcades is pretty standard! Go down to an arcade like Hirose in Akihabara and pick a game - it's like watching a superplay DVD of every single game you watch.

I saw this one guy 1 life Aliens vs Predator, he built up 8 lives by the end boss - THAT AINT A MINOR TASK! >_<

                  Heres an addition for you:

Daily Mail Reader - never played a videogame and refuses to let their children have any sort of console in their house (although happy for them to sit in front of the TV for hours watching any old crap). Lives in fear!

How about the collector/hoarder who doesn't play at all and simply collects games like an overpaid runt. I don't have any time for those people, there's absolutely no difference between collecting games, micro machines, stamps, or gay porn.

The Neo forum is the sickest place on the net for that, by sick I mean totally **** and not good at all.

Me: I'll import say 3-4 games per year and then play them to death with the odd bit of retro/RPG on the side.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 for me. Import titles because i'm impatient for the release over here (God of War for example) and also some of the lesser known games when i've read about them.

I would put myself in section 4, buying games that never see the light of day over here, either Japanese or US versions depending on the genre!

If its an RPG for example or a major texted game, then i tend to wait for US versions, as i don't see the point in buying the Japanese version of such games if you don't have a f**king clue what's going on?

I've never understood why people like to lump gamers into different groups. So you get people who play games all the time, and others who only pick up and play once every while. Why can't we all just get along?
