    Resident Evil 4 Premium Edition - pre-orders

Just read on Gamespot that Gamestop are taking pre-orders for Resident Evil 4 Premium Edition for the PS2. Like the Gamecube Special Edition you get a limited edition Laser Cell (of Ada Wong instead of Leon) a Brady Games Resident Evil Prologue, plus a making of Resident Evil 4 DVD.

I've put my order in today. Has anybody else pre-ordered.

Doesn't say/show if it comes in a tin like the GC one.

Why not? Graphic's wise it looks as good as the NGC version. Anybody who has seen the game running will know this; it's like comparing Killer 7 on the NGC to the PS2 version, there's nothing in it.

Also the PS2 version has a new character in Ada Wong, new cut-scenes, improved AI, character costumes and new weapons. Plus you'll get it on one disc, unlike the NGC's two, so that means no disc changing, hence no gameplay interuptions!

Just because a game is slightly better in the graphic's department, doesn't mean to say it's the best version!

Is this Premium Edition a GameStop-only thing? If so, I'll preorder.

That really is a silly thing to say. The two could not be further apart. The PS2 version has no lighting on the scenery (so it looks incredibly flat), half the number of polys in the characters, the texture res is at best 1/4 of what was used on the GC and at a much lower quality (they look as if they have been compressed from 32-bit to 4-bit), and then all rendered with the PS2's very poor image quality (the system is technically incapable of mip mapping based on oblique surfaces, which is why everything looks so scruffy).

Who knows, maybe Capcom will throw some slowdown in too just to complete the package.

The game was written for the Cube, it belongs on the Cube, Shinji Mikami only wanted to ever see it on the Cube. And you know Capcom will bring whatever extras they've put into the PS2 port over to a Cube special edition before long anyway.

Your talking ****e there mate! For anybody that's seen or played some of the beta version would say otherwise. A quote from IGN.

"The GameCube build seems to retain a visual edge over the PS2 port, due mostly to a slightly higher polygon count and additional filtering. But at the end of the day, gamers are likely to be hard-pressed to tell the differences between the two versions if they are not forewarned"

As i mentioned in my previous post the PS2 version will also have a new character, new cut-scenes, improved AI, character costumes and new weapons. Plus you'll get it on one disc!

This will be an excellent conversion, if not, the best.

I don't think so, your in dream land if you think Capcom will release another version of Resident Evil 4 with the special features of the PS2 version back on to the NGC. Why would they, the game never sold to well in certain parts of the world i.e. UK to jusitfy another version.

Jesus, you create a good thread, and as usual some moron pisses all over it!

You any idea if it's much hassle to preorder through them? A quick check shows a long process of emailing them your latest bank statement, verification etc =/

When you pre-order you won't get charged until the game get's shipped. Also regarding emailing your latest bank statement; their system does this randomly. I recently email them about payment and this is what they had to say:

I think not, what are you some kind of PS2 developer expert or something. Why can't everybody just be happy that the PS2 is going to get a great conversion of a great game!

just pointing out that if you already have the gamecube version, i wouldnt get too excited.

oh and you dont have to be a developer to understand that the ps2 is underpowered and sacrifices will be made.

if your a ps2 owner without a gamecube then this will be the game of the year!!!

I would expect the PS2 version will be decent enough...and while I haven't played any demo's of the game, the pic's of the PS2 version compared to those of the GC one seem to show a lot rougher looking set of images.
At the end of the day as long as Capcom can retain the essence of the GC version, these slight graphical deficiencies will imo likely have little impact on the overall experience of the PS2 version
