    Resident Evil 4 Prototype Video

Unseen footage of Resi 4 before it was changed for the fantastic game we have today, would have been interesting to compare the early one with the current game. Amazing how so much has changed too, from the setting to the actual viewpoint of the game, can only imagine the game would have been nowhere near as good without the camera stuck behind Leon.

    Thoughts?

    Resi 4 just got served.

Some of the camerawork and the game moving as he walks towards the camera early on (knife in the doll's back) is gorgeous.

I'd love to see this released too, even if it's a shorter game. That's stunning.

Is that really running on a cube and not just a render? Some of the graphical detail looked even better than the finished game (e.g. the stuff on the table).

Seems weird - it looks great so why didn't they just finish it and release it already, then release what we finally got as Resi 5? I'm sure no-one would have minded. What a difference it could have made if we'd seen a game like that on the Gamecube in early 2003.

      Spoiler

I realise that some of that ended up in the game though (with Ashley)

I didn't think that was prototype, I thought that was how the game was going to be until it was scraped and they went back to the drawing board?

Games Radar are also talking ****, that movie hasn't 'only now surfaced' as I viewed that years ago and probably still have it on a harddrive somewhere.

Yeah true, they did a lot of work that got scrapped, theres the footage with the ghosts and scene on the Zepplin which is probably pre this footage. Apparently elements from the RE4 drawing boards found their way to P.N.03, DMC & that one with the dog.

yeah i remember there was a lot of debate regarding the blue ghost with the chain, as if it was some kind of nemesis type character.

Didn't something similar happen with resi evil 2 where they scrapped a 70% complete version and start again?

Oh, I've never seen the video before so I didnt know, but not many have seen it so its a good watch. Does look gorgeous though, would have liked to see the whole game like that.

And still they insist on the rotation style movement instead of dmc or metal gear point in the direction you want to go style.

I like the added furry bits on Leon's jacket.

I'm glad they scrapped this, the supernatural element does not belong in resident evil IMO.

That looks interesting, but not 100% right. It has that Early Dreamcast game look to it, only with better graphics... by that I mean very shadowed, rounded characters. I love looking at examples of things that changed before the final game came out though. Did anyone ever play the beta version of Sonic 2 with the cut Hidden Palace Zone? It was really interesting.

yea this video has been around for a while, but has now only just become widespread.

Honestly it looks amazing.Even has the over the shoulder view for improved accuracy. As much as i love RE4 as it turned out,i would like to of seen how this version ended up.Especially after giving REmake another completion a few weeks back, damn that game is tense at times! look at the hookman teleporting towards you as the screen distorts

The sheer polish makes you wonder how far capcom went with this version. Most realistic looking leather jacket award goes to capcom
