Nanostray looks to me to suffer the same problems that I have with the Ray* series, that is to say, stuff is on-screen but not shootable because it's being all pretty coming to the right altitude, and the moving into the screen and out again means you're not going directly up or down, but in and out slightly diagonally, which makes hell for precision.
Basically if it's on the screen I should be able to shoot it and when I press up I want to go up. Full 3D stuff like Starfox is fine, 2D stuff is even better, but 2-and-a-bit-D shooters just aren't much fun IMO because the graphics engine self-defeat the values behind a good shooter.

I think that most shooters are designed for a niche market so it is hard for any magazine to review them, being fair to Edge they gave Gradius 5 a glowing review.
It therefore should get a 10! But people will complain it has no depth, blah blah. Not all games can be RPGs. A shooter is a shooter, if you don't like the genre don't play it, and certainly don't review it. Same crap that saw poor reviews for OutRun 2, one of the finest arcade games in many years. You have to review games based on what they are, not what you think they should be. (this is not the same as forgiving bad games)

RGS got a bullsh8t review in EDGE , going by their cra8p review system at the time (A game must be revolutionary to get a 10) RSG should have been a 10 easy.
Instead we get a tiny review, on that a game that for a shooter was totally revelation From it weapon and bosses design, down to the fact that stages took like an hour to finish .
EDGE missed the boat on this one, just like Gunstar Heroes.
Still it had the misfortune to be on a SEGA machine or associated with SEGA. Which for EDGE means mark it down but at least one .
If the likes of Pro Evo can get a 9 in EDGE, then so can the likes of RSG.
It shouldn't matter the Genre Just if the game is any good or not .
That?s all that counts at the end of the day
