    Rebel Star : Tactical Command

Not every critic is the same. Metacritic offers aggregated game reviews from the top critics, and our own METASCORE pinpoints at a glance how each game was reviewed.

It's the 'X-Com for the GBA' game that we've all been waiting for (okay, I have anyway).

Does anyone have a preview copy of this yet? I've just read another preview and I've suddenly become aware that the characters are actually named, instead of just being semi-generic soldiers like in X-Com. Please tell me this isn't then going to be a Fire Emblem style 'once they die you lose them and they can't be replaced' setup with characters. I will honestly cry if that's the case. I hated that about Fire Emblem, it made the game feel really forced, in that I had to go back and redo a level if someone died. Although the blatant rock/paper/scissors stuff in FE didn't do it any favors with me either.

I just want a straight port of X-Com to the GBA, is that too much to ask?

I await this game with baited breath. It should hopefully ship from VG+ tomorrow.

    "Bated" breath.

And yeah, I've been waiting for this one since it was announced. The first single-player Gollop strategy game in years should be much bigger news than it is.

With the crazy licensing ****-ups with X-Com, we'll never see an X-Com game, but that Codo have put the Rebelstar name to what is essentially an unofficial X-Com sequel pleases me. I lost half of the eighties to Rebelstar and Laser Squad, and hope to do the same with Rebelstar GBA.

You learn something new every day. I always thought that 'bait' didn't really make sense.

And yeah, I'm amazed people aren't getting really excited about this game.

I hope this is as good as Rebelstar Raiders was on the Sinclair Spectrum. I liked that game...

The soldiers in XCom were named, too. That's how I told them apart.

Is it actually by Julian Gollop!? That's class! I assumed they had just lifted the name for recognition. His 'Chaos - the battle of wizards' is still a strong contender for my favourite game of all time. I never put the same amount of time into Rebelstar Raiders but it was also cool.

I was a C64 man so Rebelstar passed me by almost. I was a big Laser Squad and Lords of Chaos player however, and then lost god knows how much time at uni to X-Com.

So yeah, this is gonna be highly anticipated by myself... come on VG+ and ship!

                      .
Isn't that the same as X-COM? Serious question I've never played an X-Com game properly before as it was a bit before my time. I thought X-Com had named soldiers and once they were dead, they were dead. Then you have to replace them with a less experienced new soldier(just like you can in FE).

Nope I can't find it mentioned anywhere on their site? All I can find is a strategy book for it...

Same goes for everyone else, VG+, Playasia, nobody mentions this games release anywhere??

Aha got it now, ta. I wasn't putting a space between the two words.

Still don't think its out today though, VG+ don't even have a release date.
