Buchigire Kongou on PS2 is probably the strangest game I've ever played. It's a one on one 'beat em up' with construction vehicles. Very strange, but absolutely hilarious, especially when performing special moves. Really needs to be seen to believed.

Perhaps Saurian was referring to its predecessor.

While I'm here - Space Fishermen ? Anyone played this ?

It can be procured quite cheaply, and I'm tempted - but opinions are always good first, eh ...

I LOVE unique games~! That's what I live for. Many of the titles mentioned in this thread are sitting on my shelf.

                A few others I have:

Power Shovel (construction equipment game.....yeah, that IS it)

RollAway (beachball plus M.C. Ecsher = insane puzzle game)

Motion Gravure: Harumi Nemoto (I just reviewed this for a web site)

Tomak: Save the Earth (dating sim where the girl is only a head in a flower pot)

Bad Mojo (you play a cockroach)

Sentinel Returns (sequel to the bizarre hide-n-seek robot game)

Gakuyen Toshi vara noir (SRPG, not really strange, but different! WONDERFUL art style!)

                ----------------------------------------------

Just to back up a few others mentioned.....

                Incredible Crisis (brilliant)

Nobody Can Stop Mr.Domino (finished it and yes it IS hard!)

One Piece Mansion (very fun....especially in the latter levels)

Devil Dice (EVIL game! You will lose sleep! I played the new version at E3 "Bombastic". Devil Dice with explosives. You MUST play this if you're a fan of the original)

I've been wondering about this too - what kind of soundtrack does it have ? This is the only thing holding me back from ordering ...

Sentinel Returns (sequel to the bizarre hide-n-seek robot game)
Actually - I think this might have been developed in the West. Geoff Crammond, someone like that

Nobody Can Stop Mr.Domino (finished it and yes it IS hard!)
PAL version ? I had that for a while, and just couldn't make it to the end of the last level. When I replaced it with the Japanese version - I did it first time ^^ You can use the health squares more than once, see ... It's so much more enjoyable that way - being able to concentrate on scores and linking the targets, unlocking the other dominoes, etc.
There's also a sweet J-Pop theme tune that was stripped out of the PAL, too.

                    Re: Motion Gravure

Don't bother unless you REALLY like looking at Japanese women in bikinis and such. To answer your question the music is very sedate. Like it wants to be slow-mo house music. In all, the pictorial part is over in 20 to 25 minutes. The DVD "making of / behind the scenes" bonus disk (30 minutes long) is okay, but again you have to REALLY be into gawking at Japanese girls in various states of undress - but NEVER nude.

And trust me, you're seen more flesh in a Victoria's Secret catalog. This stuff is VERY tame. But it's also a bit strange - Japanese style. As you "play/ watch" through the "game / experience" you will get a flashing prompt (the picture will flash with an X-ray effect) Push the "triangle" button when this happens and you can unlock "secret scenes". Find all the secret scenes and unlock a missing scene in the options menu. Some of these scenes are VERY .....well, interesting. A close up shot of just Harumi's eyes as she cries in slow motion. Or another where Harumi is attempting to drink a gallon of milk, and the overflow spills down her body, cascading over her breasts (she's wearing a bikini while doing this).

The "motion" Gravure effect is pretty damn fancy I admit. The overall effect is very much like the Robin Williams movie "What Dreams May Come" where Williams is in heaven and it's like being in a Van Gough painting. Things move, but then they are still individual scenes.....just closely "stitched" together.

Anyway, unless you're filthy rich and want to burn 45 minutes to an hour watching the same girl walk about in swim wear then I wouldn't pick it up. Granted the menus are in English and there is very little Japanese (only on the bonus DVD), so language wouldn't be a problem.

                    Re: Mr. Domino

Mr. Domino is my American version. I know what you mean about he health squares. Sucks. It took me SEVERAL attempts to beat the final stage. But the earlier stages were funnier. (candy store and going through the house with the family in each room).

Hey, thanks for the lowdown ^^ . I don't think I'll be rushing into it now - but I certainly want one eventually for the curiosity value. I'm leaning toward Hiroko Mori I think ...

Actually I might have something similar in concept now that I think about it. Never mentioned it earlier, because I didn't really consider it a 'game' ...

Yukiko Morikawa : Because I love you (1996)

Basically a 'video single' of sorts - rather cheap and amateurish footage of happy, pretty Miss Morikawa sitting around reading kids books, then trying on various outfits and eventually making some awful-looking scrambled eggs. No great talent in the singing department unfortunately ~~

Otherwise there are some photo galleries and a video-editing thingy.

It was part of a series of four, too - like Motion Gravure ... so I guess using the PS as a promotional platform for aspiring idols is nothing new, eh

I got it and it is really fun. First off Play Asia is selling it for 14.00 so the price isn't an issue, and in terms of fun it can't be beat. I figure I'd try it out this weekend. And Sunday afternoon I had to force myself to put it down.

Its pretty much a strange Japanese fishing game the controls are simple, and the instruction sheet they include with it, has English instructions on the other side. Now I'm trying to figure out how I caught a certain fish, so I can again. Still the menus are easy to navigate and all you have to use is the triangle button. If you have the $$ I'd say go for it.

Yes, it was Western developed, and includes a soundtrack by John Carpenter, of all people. The PC version is better.

Back onto JPN games, how about Internal Section by Square? This game is a definitive pre-cursor to Rez. Its a hi-res polygon 3D shmup loosly based on Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000. Later stages see some highly imaginitive twists, including doing battle against a Rubiks Cube. What gives it long lasting appeal is the vast weapons system, where certain weapons have to be used at certain points in order to ease progression. Its a matter of experimenting and finding what works best where. Excellent Japanese-techno soundtrack too.

Extremely stylish packaging. It's one of those great games where you can swap out the disc and play it with one of your own CDs, as well.
