Didn't the magazine scans state that the little Metal Gear was a "MkII"? Thereby making it the exact same model of unit?

    Snatcher was set AFTER Policenauts?

Shows how much attention I was paying to things. I thought Policenauts was set after Snatcher. I know Policenauts has a cameo appearance by Napolean from Snatcher in it (he's in a waiting room, and difficult to see, hunched over on some benches, the only clue is the text when you speak to him). When was SD Snatcher set?

And yeah, as was said, Meryl from MGS was also in Policenauts. Can't remember any Fox Hound members in Snatcher though. Been a while since I played it.

Kojima always does this, referencing past games. He re-used a lot of content with each successive MG game, so this is no surprise. (MGS was almost a remake of MG2, and MGS2 was a pseudo VR sim of MGS, while MGS3 was almost a remake of Snake's Revenge if you ask me! )

And as most know, he borrows HUGE amounts from all kinds films. Frankly too many for me to list with any accuracy.

You raise a good point Ash, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Snake meets up with Harry Benson from Snatcher, perhaps in Harry's younger days. And Harry gives him the MG MkII unit.

Another thing to think about, is will Kojima weave into MGS4 the plotline regarding the virus outbreak at the Chernoten research institute (from Snatcher)? I haven't seen the MGS4 trailer, but people say it's set in a war torn environment, which could be a side effect of the disaster? Perhaps he'll even try and connect the foxdie virus to the disaster, thereby bringing us full circle.

If you want to make good predictions, you should look to films, and try and work what he's been watching that may influence him.

I'd never put anything past Kojima.

This i what i mean about Kojima 'narrowing' the universe, by incorporating too much from what has gone before, both in his other games and movies, we can guess pretty much what is gonna happen in MGS4.

While it's a nice touch to see such elements, i hope this new game will introduce more characters and expand more on the MGS universe, and maybe even throw in a few new things to question what we thought we knew all along, just to keep thing 'fresh'.

This is just my crazy opinion, but I actually like universe narrowing. Eventually you come full circle, and attain a zen-like total understanding of the whole narrative. It also ties up loose ends. But myeh, that could just be me.

I'd quite like it if he weaves Chernoten and Foxdie together, along with Harry Benson and other characters.

I think it'll narrow. Kojima has said in MGS4 he wants to use an 'all-star' cast from all the MGS games. Perhaps he also means from other franchises he's worked on too, a la Snatcher?

Aye, agreed closing up plot threads is just as important as starting new ones, and also using characters from other work is cool also - it's just a very fine line between being a nice touch or all becoming a bit predictable. However, saying that Kojima doesn't seem to of strayed in to the latter with past titles, and I'm pretty confident MGS4 will keep me just as intruiged as his past games.

Slighty off topic, but would folk prefer he go on to do another game after this or direct a movie 'proper' - it's just that when I watch cut scenes in MGS games, I always wish Kojima would have a go a making a full on action movie - and show current 'action' directors (espescially Michael Bay) how things should be done! or would this change be the biggest mistake since Jon Woo went hollywood?

I think it would be the biggest mistake since Woo went Hollywood.

I would actually LOVE it if Kojima was allowed to script and direct his own film, but I fear that those holding the purse strings would force him to pair up with someone that cramps his style.

Remember Final Fantasy the movie? A blurb described it as Japanese storytelling combined with Western sensibilities. The film, I thought, was rubbish, and NOWHERE near what the FF team were capable of. I don't think they were really allowed to even be creative. The whole thing reaked of Hollywood.

Then again, if Konami gave Kojima a big lump of cash, and said "Go! Go make whatever the hell you want, you crazy, cheeky chappy." I think that would work.

Personally, I'd like to see him given free reign to make another game, but one he really wants to make, instead of being forced to always make MG. I never played Boktai, since it didn't interest me, and I'd really like to see Kojima work on another console game, perhaps a big adventure with strong narrative.

yeah s'pose! i have never understood this perpetual myth that we in the west won't get anything transferred from Japan unless it has some form of 'western sensiblity' impose upon it!

It's been happening since Gatchaman was butchered and rebuilt as 'battle of the planets' for the west, and things ain't got much better since!
The first Final Fantasy film did suck and it would be no suprise if more people import Advent Children on dvd/umd (regardless of lack of subtitles) in the first week of release than went to see the last one!
