    GoW and MGS Pic

holy ****, doubt that PS3 is more powerful than 360 has been squashed. I just saw the direct feed footage of MGS4 on g4 and it smokes every game to date graphically, even gears of war which they showed soon after looked like utter garbage compared to it.

Scheduled release date for mgs is over two years away... Dec 2007. Enough time to improve 360 graphics.

This kind of thread is being done on EVERY Xbox and Sony forum out there. Please, They're both in the same kind of league, lets just leave it at that.

    *getting a bit more detailed*

From what I've seen, MGS4 has beutifully detailed charachters, but some of the background textures are a bit iffy. Now, these new up to date screens have the same quailty charachter models and Good background textures. Both games will imrpove graphically and look very similair during their production.

The two machines look to have pretty similar levels of grunt, but the 360's power is slightly easier to get to.

Gears of War is running on the best game engine in the world (to date), and I know the team of artists at Epic is absolutely top notch. Hardly surprising it looks so good. MGS4 looked great too, but was clearly a notch or two behind GoW in terms of technical bells and whistles, and sheer texture and model detail.

Just like to say that its kinda unfair people are comparing the TGS outings, the GOW presentation was clearly im game gameplay which showed you how the game looked and played, while MGS4 was a trailer with no gameplay and also to show off charachter details and the Cell.

agreed with leone, im not excited about those two games at all, but they dont look alot different, plus MGS is 2 years away and was shown in trailer form.

I bet there wont be alot in it. And if there is? so what!

I don't give a flying feck which one has better looking graphics as long as both of them play well, cause last time I checked...graphics don't make a game. All this crap is just argument fodder for fanboys, being the pathetic wankers that they are.

I guess we've got months and months worth of crappy comparison threads to come. Joy!

its just a shame that, at the moment, the animation in gears of war is ****e, reminds me of cardboard cutouts moving about when u see the ducking and diving stuff.

Monkey you need to take your argument to the source of graphics trailers who provide all these fanboys their hype.

Graphics seem important to them. For example, the authenticity of that killzone trailer, at the conference they said it was fully real time. Then people found out that it was doctored, and ONLY THEN did sony admit that due to "time constraints" they had to doctor it up and speed it up.

To be brief: What PlayStation 3? Sony did what they do oh-so-very-well. They offered up fantastic technical specs and then showed a bunch of tech demos and videos to a group of people who were so eager to get a glimpse of next-gen glory that they tossed all skepticism and reason out the window. Sony started with a flood of useless specs--the kind that assume your code is perfectly efficient and the games will keep every register on a nine-core Cell CPU and big huge Nvidia graphics chip busy in every cycle.

This is, of course, ridiculous. It was followed by tech demos that don't resemble real games. Square Enix reps came out and showed off the intro to its Final Fantasy VII, rendered in real time on the PS3, and it looked gorgeous. Just like its real-time demo of original content on the Xbox 360 looked gorgeous a few hours later at the Microsoft press conference.

The real whopper was the video reel. It was introduced with a statement like "Here are some franchises coming to PlayStation 3," with no mention that what we would see actually resembles the games in any way. Game journalists flipped out. The 800-pound gorilla of these demo reels was a video of Killzone 2. It has been the subject of much contention whether or not this video was pre-rendered or made in the game engine. Game journalists who should know better insisted that it was real gameplay footage. Then Sony came out and claimed it was, too.
Up till this generation the highest end PC games on good monitors has been the best graphic quality in gaming (aside from a few exceptional console areas like fighters). So how good is the Next-Gen? How good will the PS3 be in reality? IMHO any game demos that look better than the best PC games have to be considered *suspect* until we actually see playable builds.

Granted this should be the generation of console that actually passes high end PC games (at least temporarily) since the GPU's are a generation ahead and multi-core processing has arrived, but let's see -playable- games 1st.

heh, i said the same thing, next gen games may look nice but they still haven't worked out animation blending

as a side note, did anyone play kill.switch on the ps2 or pc?

if so, they'll recognise the exact same gameplay in gears of war. cliffy b gets on my tits when he bangs on about "2nd person camera". **** off, its been done before, get over yourself

for the record i am pumped about both. a lot. more so metal gear but only because i am officially in love with metal gear games

I think everything about GoW looks better. The characters, backgorunds, the lot. There seems to be more detail to me.

                          So?

Of course, if everyone didn't swallow so much bull**** spouted from the likes of Microsoft and Sony in the first place...

Yeah but you gotta admit, the gap between Microsoft and Sony (gaming wise) has been widened Widely with all those pre rendered videos and crap they keep talking. Not inculuding crazy kens comments.

All I care about is owning all the consoles, don't really give a **** if one is more powerful than the other!
