Whilst not strictly survival horror, Eternal Darkness is worth playing just for the Bathroom scene. Pants filled. Other stuff in it just made me laugh, even if it did fool me a few times.

Anyone that's never going to play this, but wants to know about the best of the insanity effects:

About 10 hours in and you go to save your game and it says "Do you want to clear all your save games? YES/NO".... After a moment's panic, you happily click NO... It then appears to wipe all your save game slots, marking them all as empty. Heheh. Got me a treat. I was swearing blind for a few seconds before it twigged.

        Also:

It sticks a green mute symbol on the screen and the sound goes dead. It looks very similar to the mute symbol on my TV. Thought I'd sat on the remote. Was stabbing the remote volume buttons, but nothing was working Thought the TV was buggered.

Enemy Zero. It may rip off a lot from Alien but it's done in such a unique way and puts you so far into the game that it remains very tense throughout since the enemies are invisible. There's nothing more scary that walking through a corridor and thinking you're safe until the motion detector starts gently beeping, rising up to a high pitched almost constant tone within a few seconds.

All the Silent Hill games, Eternal Darkness and even though it's not from a traditional survival horror viewpoint - DOOM 3.

It's not horror strictly speaking, but what about S.O.S. on the SNES. That was 'escape the horror of the sinking ship' survival

Siren. Most atmospheric game ever. And the only game I've managed to complete 100%.

Blue Stinger for the DC. Awesome game. Can't beat the feeling of listening to Xmas music in the market whilst mauling 4 armed zombies with an axe

all in my opinion, but siren had 0% atmosphere for me.

all atmosphere was lost when two asian kids saw a zombie and said "Corr blimey guv, there's a bleedin' zombie"

Dino Crisis 2. Not exactly scary or anything, but features neat RE4 Mercenaries-style score attack gameplay.
