I don't think they were actually poorer games, I jus think they didn't have the same impact coz it'd been seen before, and so while playing em the wow factor wasn't anywhere near as good if it was there at all. I go back to alot of my old N64 favourites now and find them nowhere near as good, tho key exceptions such as Wave Race 64 do stand out.

Well for me this machine was much more enjoyable than the N64. Everything they released (again in my opinion) equalled the enjoyment I got off of the N64 and then some. As someone said - The only game they didn't get right this time was a decent Star Fox - But as a fun adventure I was one of the few that played through SFA and actually enjoyed playing it!
I started off in November 2001 with the Japanese console modded to play US games. The first game I put in and played was Monkey Ball. I had Star Wars to show off the graphics. Luigi's Mansion was the first magic game I played though. I got it around January 2002 and people can argue all they want that it was too short - Every second of that too short game was incredible to me. Great fun.
And it is only time constraints that have prevented me from enjoying some of the bigger releases such as Resi 4. I am currently enjoying a belated Paper Mario and will soon get on to some of the fantastic backlog I have lined up including DK Jungle Beat.
And for unique titles - You can't beat Animal Leader, Doshin the Giant and Chibi Robo!

I never hesitate in recommending the GC to friends, especially now as its so cheap to get one alongwith the must-have titles for it. RE4 is the obvious higlight, but I think that most of the other games mentioned on the thread are well worth playing through. I've been picking up a lot of them, pre-owned or on budget recently, as I don't want to miss out when the stores give up on it which seems to be getting closer and closer.
I remember when the N64 came out, I hadn't really been paying much attention to console gaming. But my mate called me to say he'd bought a JAP N64 and that I HAD to see this new Mario game. He came round with it and we bunked off work for the day to play it. I say "play it", but a lot of the time we'd just make Mario run round in puddles or swim or generally just stand gawping at stuff. It was totally unlike anything we'd ever seen before.
And I think that's what the Revolution needs for launch, something very very special. Sony have an incredibly strong brand name and following, so the PS3 will sell very well from launch, regardless of the titles available (as long as the established franchises are there, they're safe). Microsoft have come such a long way since the launch of the Xbox that they're now in the minds of the "casual" gamer and consumer in a way which they could only have dreamed of when the Xbox was launched.
Maybe Nintendo need to do something different as well as amazing for their launch line-up. Check the word of mouth on the internet regarding some of the JAP games for the DS. I'd never have considered buying an imported JAP game for a handheld before, but I've now bought 3 and they're some of the best and certainly innovative games I've played in ages. I've shown some of them to friends and family (a mixture of gamers and total non-gamers) and they love them to bits. Why don't Nintendo take a bit of a risk with the Revolution and include something a bit different in their launch line up?
OK, so there have been some unique/quirky titles in the GC line-up, so why haven't they worked the magic for Ninty? Is it simply down to the lack of advertising and press coverage? Or is that the masses would much rather play one of the huge selling franchise games that is released year upon year and is only slightly different, but which is lapped up all the same?
Maybe I'm being naive and hugely optimistic, but if Ninty demo'd a game akin to Mario 64 and shouted about it from the highest rooftops, surely that would prick up interest in the console from as many people as they could ever hope to in this age of the sequel? Of course, they'd have to deliver it on-time when it came to it, but I just think they need to get the mainstream consumer excited in the product again.
Oops, I appear to be rambling in a leaky-brain sort of way. I'll shut up now.

GC in pro scan running through a CRT was enough of me to get up to the neck in gamecube love. The Amiga started my vga fetish, then the DC showed me how a console could support it. Of all the current generation the xbox merely showed a brief flash of a stocking using the x2vga but the GC sits there legs akimbo wanting you to see all its glorious palette.

I love the Gamecube's use of colour. Whether it's really bright fluorescents in F-Zero or darker tones in Resident Evil, games are just so vibrant on cube!
My favourite moments are:
1. When the upbeat Phrendrana music on Metroid Prime started playing
2. Seeing F-Zero GX for the first time
3. Ninja's battle at the end of Metal Gear Solid
4. Playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time
5. The sandbird on Mario Sunshine
My only complaint game quality wise is that Nintendo should use orchestral music, too often they've gone for really midi quality stuff with rubbish melodies. I have a CD of Nintendo themes performed by an orchestra and it's just gorgeous.
After a slow start I can't fault the system and prefer to play games on it than on my PS2. I just love the fast loading times, memory card saving, bootup etc. Oh and you can adjust the screen position in the system menuI get a bit annoyed when games don't come out for it.
I'm quite into my anime so i'm looking forward to Bleach and Naruto 4 fighting games this christmasAnd of course, Fire Emblem.

since i've had the gamecube its always felt like an import console because everyone was importing them as there wasn't the games coming out for the machine or just cause there was games out for it that didn't come out over here.
did animal crossing ever come out over here and there was a few others that didn't
for sure nintendo's next gen machine will be on my list as they're doing things different and not just going for the same games like redos of fifa soccer etc
and that new controller has me excited much more than the xbox 360 has.

I think it greatly depends on wether you went down the import route or stuck to the pal version. I went with a jpn one & have never been dissappointed with the amount of games on it. My mate went for the uk one & its now gathering dust as he's fed up with the lack of titles over here.
The gamecube is one of the very few consoles i have managed to get on japanese launch.
My very first game was luigis mansion & seeing it for the very first time was amazing the quality of the graphics blew me away. I remember just going round looking at the realtime 3d shadows & the way the fabric realistically moved. I loved every bit, it had a great atmosphere.
I must admit capcom have been amazing on gamecube, there was the first biohazard remake that was faantastic i loved exploring all the new bits & enjoying the massive graphical update. Then theres the rest of the biohazard games/ viewtiful joe / PN03 / killer 7 / rockman exe & rockman x command mission.
Namco have been pretty good too with mr driller, pacman vs, donkey konga 1 2 & 3, donkey kong jungle beat.
then theres all the other weird & fantastic games like Giftpia, chibi robo, homeland, mutsu to no hohon, kyojin no doshin, doubutsu no mori, doubutsu banchou, kururin squash,
the list goes on & on, im nearly at the 100 game mark yet theres still games on the cube that i really want from its back catalogue, theres tons of hidden gems.
Some people have written the cube off but not me i love it to bits.
