Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but:

Shadow Dancer (arcade) was a real comedown after the splendour that was arcade Shinobi.

Come to think of it Rolling Thunder 2 was rather poor, I like my bad guys to look like KKK members.

    Stryker's Run 2? Any takers?

Syndicate Wars wasn't as good as the first. Although the graphics were greatly improved, they had a strange weapon system (recharging energy system for all weapons - ugh) and the dark edgy atmosphere wasn't really there. Still a great game though - will we ever see Syndicat3?

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Almost perfect to SMW's perfect)

You kidding? Yoshi's Island was absolutely superb!
I muchly prefer it to Mario world.

Super Smash Bros Melee (just awful, after the playability and tight controls of the N64 version)
Agreed about Halo 2, the first Halo is so much more enjoyable in 1 player mode.

Agreed about Burnout also, the first one is just so slick and atmospheric compared the sequels. Blame firmly levelled at EA.

I would not agree about SFAII, I prefer EX2 to it, and besides 3rd Strike wipes the floor with all prevoius Street Fighter games. I was raised on Street Fighter and I believe, even objectively speaking the SF3 3rd Strike easily eclipses all the prequels, it's a slow burner though, it took me a long time to fully appreciate all it's finery.

Final fight! non on the sequels had a patch on the original finesse that the original oozed.

Radient silvergun's sequel ikaruga was good but it was too much of a departure from the first, it was almost like someone else had done it, infact its a totally different game and the fact that some peeps made this out to be a true sequel has obviously mared my judgement! Grrr...

well on story level metal gear solid 2, i also think the addition of playing Raiden(that spelt right ), was uncalled for although the intention was good was very dissapointing.

Tomb Raider PS2 one, forgotten name so bad.
Tony Hawks 3, was poor compared to the ps1 thps2

All the Fifa's going back to the last great one, where you can actually run away from the ref.

WE9\PES5 simply dislike it compared to 8. Too many niggles and simply not smooth as last installment.

                Dino Crisis 2 was that.
Project Zero 2, too easy so lost some shock value.

GTA: Vice City, thought 1st version was brilliant, although music in VC was awesome.

Mario Kart double dash, dissapointing did expect better

I'd have to go with Vice City... I know some around here (mostly the early 30 somethings) love it, but I thought the level design was uninspired and far too flat.

If you compare it to the variety that went into San Andrea's geography, then there isn't any comparison. You could say due to the fact it's based on Miami this was always going to be the case, but Liberty City is based on new York, and GTAIII managed to find a way to make the environment diverse/extensive.

To make matters worse, the engine in Vice City (on the PS2) seemed to be advanced in some ways, and at the same time, more broken than the version GTA III used. Cars, objects and people would disappear a few feet away, though thankfully, this was something that was cleared up in San Andreas. I also didn't like Tommy Vercetti too much.

Vice City is a good game (I ploughed between 80-100 hours into it), but it isn't up to the level of GTAIII (atmospherically) or San Andreas (in terms of mechanics/choice/depth/environment).

Sorry - slightly off topic: was Stryker's Run 2 also called Codename Droid, or were there two sequals?

On topic: Double Dragon 3. Utter ****e.

Metal Gear 2 : Sons of Liberty

Called me old-fashioned, but I like games you can actually play.

I did say it was almost perfect!
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who prefers SMW to SMW2.

It's just that the open map structure of SMW was, to me, superior than the old, linear style select your level type of gameplay.
Yoshi's Island looked far prettier of course, but at some points the nature of the graphics didn't lend themselves to the precision required.

Both all-time classics however, of course.

Yes, I think it was called Codename Droid, it's just me being lazy and all.

Shenmue 2 was worse than Shenmue 1 for a number of reasons, mainly the scruffy less realistic visuals and the change of pace.

I loved the slow, gentle atmosphere of the original, you really felt like you belonged in Yokosuka by the end, but with Shenmue 2 there were so many locations and so little time was spent in each one. AM2 even added a time skip option so you could just cut to the chase.

Still a great game though, but the original, sailors incluced, best illustrates the magic of Shenmue.

Onimusha. I loved the first one, but found 2 never intersted me that much
