UK Courts rule that emulation of 'retro' viodegames is illegal.

In a landmark ruling, the High Courts have upheld that the current trend for modification of present videogame systems, to allow the playback of older machines back catalogues, is illegal. This follows the case of Mr A Modder, a self confessed videogames junkie, who operated a worldwide 'chipping' service for Microsoft's XBox system from his 2nd floor bedsit in Camden, north London.

Lord Justice Judy: "The use of a mod chip in order to allow emulation of outdated software on current videogame systems is tantamount to theft."

Whilst details of possible penalties for infringements are unknown at this time, a scaled system of fines is predicted. The courts however have not ruled out possible custodial sentences for repeat offenders.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police has promised a crackdown on this rampant abuse of copyrights, and has pledged to initiate a month long amnesty period for owners of the illegal consoles "to do the right thing".

Mr A Modder plans to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

"Its human rights innit bruv? Yeah man, my right to a geek is being breached. Its all old **** anyway, so who cares?"

Alternatively, but noone would believe this

Ebay promise to crack down on sales of pirate videogames.

                    (We can dream I suppose)

Headline: Toshihiro Nagoshi and the halls of his marble madness.

                            June 21th, 2010

LONDON (Reuters) - Police have arrested Toshihiro Nagoshi, the estranged and retired videogame developer behind Super Monkey Ball, for alleged animal abuse at his estate on the outskirts of London. Locals had become increasingly concerned at loud sounds eminating inside Nagoshi's residence over several months, and events climaxed when Ms. Doris, Nagoshi's closest neighbour, witnessed mysteriously shaped balls rolling inside the windows.

She told Reuters "I kept hearing these strange noises... "ei! ei! ei!"... over the fields connecting Mr. Nagoshi's residence to mine. So I visited his home to make a quiet complaint, when all of a sudden I saw these large gigantic balls rolling around through the windows. Naturally, I was very concerned and the only thing I could think of to do was to immediately call the RSPCA."

Mr. Narko, chief communications officer of London's RSPCA branch sent a team to investigate, where they found six real life monkeys trapped in large transparent balls within an empty dance hall. "We couldn't believe what we were seeing. These animals were covered in their own waste and faecal matter - the stench was simply unbearable! None of us were prepared for it. I think what we saw was the most bizarre, and disturbing, sight we'll ever across in our entire lives."

Authorities were quick to apprehend Mr. Nagoshi, who was reportedly drunk at an inner city bar during the time the discoveries were taking place. After being placed in custody, his spokesman issued a statement.

"Mr. Nagoshi would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to his neighbours due to what some may see as impractical pet ownership. At this time however, he is keen to stress that the animals he keeps have been well looked after, and are vital to the continuation of his work."

It is thought, according to sources, that Toshihiro Nagoshi had been using a real-life model of monkeys caged in balls to experiment with hands-on game design as an attempt to resuscitate his critically acclaimed Super Monkey Ball series. Giving further support to these claims were the discovery of several alterations inside Nagoshi's house that echoed numerous level designs found in the games. The original architectural planner for his estate, Mr. Humphrey, was apparently baffled to find half-pipes, hills, lifts and large basins within many of the rooms found in the house.

Since his retirement from Sega in 2009, ex-colleagues have become concerned with Mr. Nagoshi's increasingly eccentric behaviour. Yuji Naka, one of his close friends, told Reuters... "Since Toshihiro moved to England to get away from the rigors of game design, everyone at Sega has become concerned for his behaviour. He was determined to bring the world of games outside of the screen. That's all he kept talking about. In fact, he seemed to be obsessed with a concept Nintendo helped bring to life with the Revolution console... in that games could be delivered in frequently atypical ways. None of us thought he would try and reinvent himself to the extent he was arrested for."

As of this time, Toshihiro Nagoshi is awaiting to be sentenced, promising to revitalise the game industry when he recovers with a real-life adaptation of his classic Scud Race series.
