    One game console!

Would you ever buy a console to play just one game? Spend ??? to play Zelda, Halo, or Shadow of the Colossus. Personally i haven't because i feel no console is worth buying just for one game, no matter how good it is. One of my mates bought an N64 just to play Zelda: Ocarina of Time on it's release. When he completed the game he sold the console, which was a week later.

Certainly would, because it isn't about the consoles, it's about the games.

If I see the game as good enough and it motivates me, then I'd buy the hardware to play it. The system is just something it happens to be on.

This has only happened twice however.

Super Mario 64 (after playing it at a demo pod and of course watching the excitement) caused me to buy an N64, and Final Fantasy VII (after playing a friend's copy before he sold it) caused me to buy a Playstation.

It hasn't happened since because I've bought consoles more or less at their time of release, but with my intentions of holding back for the next-gen, it could occur again.

If I hadn't owned a PS2 when ICO or Shadow of the Colossus released, I would have bought one for them, just as I would for Resident Evil 4 and Killer7 on the Gamecube.

I bought a PC-FX just to play Chip Chan Kick, although given the playable games on the PC-FX it's not a bold claim.

Bought a Gameboy at an airport once just to play Tetris (as I forgot to pack my one at home).

Oh yeah... I suppose this doesn't quite count (as I upgraded for purposes other than gaming), but a large part of the reason I bought a new PC was for Half-Life 2.

              I would.

The Resident Evil remake was the game that made me get the Cube a whole 4 months before the game was actually released (though obviously I did buy some launch titles to go with it).

I wouldn't flog a console after buying and playing that one game though - you never know when something else will come along that you want to play. In fact I don't think I could ever go back to the days where I was a one console kid...

Myself would wait until a console has many great games before making a purchase. As for the games i didn't get a chance to play, ah well there's always emulation.

That's another one. I bought a Dreamcast on launch, but either Soul Calibur, Shenmue or PSO could have sold the machine to me at the time of release had I not picked one up.

I agree with Spatial, obviously buying a console to play a game leads on to better things... more software choice down the line. After buying an N64 for Super Mario 64, I still wasn't really back into console gaming at that time, even though I loved the game to bits.

It was buying a Playstation for Final Fantasy VII that invited me to a huge back catalog and got me back into buying multiple console formats again (I was Atari/Amiga/PC orientated early-to-mid ninties).

If a console came out with shenmue 3... I would probably buy it just for that (I need the end of that story )

Yep, the above games sold the Dreamcast to me

Absolutely. As I would for the next Panzer Dragoon game, the next ICO team game, Silent Hill 5 (if Team Silent do a 'Resident Evil 4' and give the series a new, and high quality makeover), the next GTA... and then of course there's the Revolution.

There aren't even any games that have been announced for it yet, but the promise of the types of experience it'll offer have almost sold the system to me already.

That reminds me - I got the Dreamcast solely for Code Veronica.

I went on to other great Dreamcast games from there and I'm thankful tbh. Without it I might not have enjoyed the other delights that system had to offer.
