On the Spot live tonight at 12 (it's on every friday at 12 midnight). They'll be showing a live Xbox 360 demo. Should be interesting.

Maybe it's my computer, but I just can't get the Gamespot site to load. Either link, or direct to the home page!?

Links definitely work. Don't worry, I think they archive the shows for later viewing.

Tell you what, realtime cloth simulation for all of the players' clothes in that basket ball game. Might not add much to the gameplay but that's what I call next-gen. Very impressive.

Am I the only one that thought that "Blood Ropes" sounded rather gross?

So once again the majority of the power will go into the graphics, instead of using the CPU grunt to present better and more original gameplay situations that aren't possible to calculate parameters for with the current CPUs.
There is no excuse to have a crap framerate in games on machines of this power, but in a way I'm almost expecting it from the first crop. I have a feeling it's more likely on PS3 than 360, but only because I've seen 360 games in motion and Sony have a habit of not delivering the moon on a stick they promised.

Hold on, this is only one game we're talking about. I doubt they sacrificed any 'original gameplay situations' in that basket ball game by using some of the cpu power available to them to make a cool effect. It looked like a great game and the guy made a point of saying that it ran at a solid 60fps. Why make sweeping negative statements about all games on a new platform? Some developers are bound to do amazing things, just like last time.

Besides, the 360 has 3 core processors, they can dedicate a whole processor just for the graphics and let the others deal with everything else. Take Kameo for example, they have used one core for the graphics/physics to be able to show 5000 trolls on screen at once, and then used ANOTHER core for the AI for each of the 5000. I couldn't agree more about games that shouldn't be sacrificing gameplay just so they have extra power just to look better, but with the triple cores the 360 has, i think we'll be seeing that alot less often.

They can, but what's the chance that they will?
My point being that I'm still waiting to be shown something impressive in gameplay terms on the 360 and PS3. Yes, PGR3 is gorgeous, but it's just car driving. Yes, the basketball game is pretty, but it's just a basketball sim. Are these things worth investment of ?300 for? Not really. So will I be buying a 360 solely for the joys of Live Arcade, the only thing so far to appeal to the gamer in me?

Why doesn't the gamer in you like to drive cars or play basketball? That's what gaming is.

No it's not, that's what simulations are. That doesn't encompass the whole of gaming.
I'm not even remotely interested in basketball in it's native form or as a videogame.
I already have PGR2, which is great, but I haven't played it all year and I'm not that interested in car driving games in general so investment in a 360 just for PGR3 isn't a viable proposition for me. Of course, starting price for a track day in one of those cars in real life, something much more attractive to me, would be in the region of ?200 but I'm not off doing that either
Videogames for me are a method of escape, not as simulation of things that occur in real life. This is why I find the popularity of The Sims hard, but not impossible, to understand. Taking out the bin, going to work, having a ****, going to bed, I have to take time out to do all that anyway so why would I want to entertain myself by prodding some chap about to make it happen on a screen?
