Arc system works + Darkstalkers!?!?

I was browsing what gamefaq's today considered to be the 10 best fighting games of all time (odd, list, Sam Sho 2 at #1!?) and it had an entry for a Darkstalkers game. So as I read the small piece about the game, I felt like playing it again.

Then I noticed... THIS

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this series will gain any more fans, as the license has been bought out by Arc System Works.

When did I miss this, or does mr list maker not know what he's talking about?

Personally, I think it'd be cool to see the Darkstalkers a bit more stylised, with new sprites, but please, don't change the gameplay.

The fact that Capcom have recently released Vampire Chronicle: The Chaos Tower and Vampire Darkstalkers Collection, I think it?s pretty clear that Capcom still have the license for Vampire/Darkstalkers (unless it was a very recent license acquisition).

Perhaps the writer is getting slightly confused. From what I gather, some of the designers/programmers from the series left Capcom and went on to work on the Guilty Gear games.

You can't take anything gamefaqs says as the truth, especially not when you see their vote character tournament crap because it's obvious that some Final Fantasy character or other will win every year. Outside of the FAQs themselves, gamefaqs is like some sort of little fanboyish clique of pathetic teenaged RPG fanboys. Have you seen any of their message boards?
I'm really surprised that since association with Gamespot the site hasn't been given a corporate make-over and had all the little children and the stupid discussion boards and karma system pushed off a ledge. A system that encourages people to make posts purely to increment a number so that they can get into a locked section of the site can only ever lead to 99% of posts being utter twaddle.

Anyway, wrt Darkstalkers, maybe Capcom are just selling off their properties that they can't see any more money coming from.

Arc System's website doesn't seem to have anything related to Darkstalkers on it and Gamespot's news doesn't have anything either. The most recent game (Darkstalkers Chronicle) was developed by Capcom Studio 5, but that was released on PSP in late 04/early 05. However, are Arc Systems not involved in development of Sammy vs Capcom, which includes Darkstalkers/Vampire characters?

Could it be possible though? i mean with a contract arc systems could have the rights to make darkstalkers game but capcom still could have overall control

or is arc systems actually owned by sammy?

Could be that arc systems has the rights to develop any new darkstalkers game. The psp game was just a port of the old games. Dont belive it though.

I think so, or they have a very chummy agreement, but as far as I can tell Capcom still owns the rights to Darkstalkers/Vampire.

I can sort of feel thats what they would do after all the company is so diverse and come up with great new stuff all the time they really do not need the street fighter or the darkstalkers franchise anymore

The PSP game was a remake. What I meant was perhaps if they thought the future value of the franchies was worth less than they could get for selling the thing off for a lump sum, the short-term gain would be more valuable to them.

As far as I can tell it's not been cancelled, although it is taking absolutely ages to happen if it's still coming.

sammy vs capcom is cancelled by all accounts. As for arc systems buying the license for darkstalkers thats pure nonsense. Right around the time of the sammy sega merger some execs were expressing interest in doing a guilty gear capcom crossover and seemed to be leaning towards the darkstalker characters who would look awesome in beautiful high res 2d.
