Nintendo tout Cube followup to third parties

Something which should be taken with a half pound of salt, but the back chat from inside the large third parties is that Nintendo has recently been talking to them about their next system pencilled in for March/April of 05.

No specs (That we've heard of, NDA's would keep a lid on those for a while anyway), no prototypes and no dev kits...yet. But a re-iterated message that they will launch within the same time frame as Sony, regardless of the cost, they will announce as close to Sony or before, if they can, and they are going to spend allot of money ensuring they have plenty of dev-kits to go around. No hoarding them inside NCL this time.

Save your pennies, one or two months in 05/06 could turn out to be stupidly expensive for us all. Imagine it, three new systems in a month, or month and a half...what an industry.

from Sony's latest announcements the rumour is that the PS3 will launch late '06 - early '07

i expect the next Nintendo console to release before the next Sony one - Ninty have missed out twice now due to launching after Sony - will be good to see them getting an head start in the next gen race

the Dreamcast had a full year on the PS2 and unfortunately that wasn't enough to save it.

Nintendo just isn't cool enough to the mainstream market anymore, thats what the problem is.

It's like the music industry, **** sells over quality.

They need to launch it at the same time as the PS3. Launching before wouldn't do it any good because it'd get lost in Sony hype.

If the lauch games have a more mainstream focus and look alot better than the PS3 ones it could make quite an impact.

I don't think Nintendo sees itself as a competitor to these Home entertainment solutions, if they still go down the Game only angle they might have some legs, especially if the price point is a tasty as the GameCube.

I wish Nintendo much luck (as well as new management).

I agree - they really need to market themselves towards a companion for the PS3 or XBox2.

I am sure Nintendo noticed how sales flew through the roof here when the massive price drop came into force (and the same for the XBox), and a very low cost games only machine is the way to go for Nintendo IMO.

They are never going to be able to compete on the same ground as Sony or Microsoft, so there is little point trying.

                  Yeh, sad but true really.

It is a real shame for Nintendo. They are my fav company without a doubt, and I am not afraid to say so. I just find it quite upsetting how they were really who made gaming become more then what it was... they were once the King/Queen in the gaming industry... now they are the Pawns....

Shame... I wish them luck. As long as they continue to make games, and I continue to buy/play them. I'm happy.
