Enough slagging off of gamesTM though. Let's have some balance here, it is pretty absorbent (I've never put a finger through it).

Even after the most fiercesome of Phals the Retro Section's Buyers Guide still does a good job of cleaning the old chocolate starfish.

no because he is then subjective and not looking at it from the point of view of an established fan

Who says he's being subjective? He might not like MK that much in general and hence has let those feelings affect his review here. Who can tell?

As you said, a review is just an opinion. One which in this case is wildly against the vast majority of other views from people I know who've played it...

What I have noticed about the printed media and social gaming is they always miss the trick. Always.

Arguably, to review Mario Kart properly you need eight human beings in the same room to adequetly cover all the game options. And we know that pre-release reviews are pratically impossible to do for online games aswell. So why even bother?

Cover it properly or not at all, would be my editorial message.
