    Playing through the pain barrier

so last night i did something extremely silly while i was making something to eat, i sliced into the tip of my right index finger - making a gash about 2cm long and about 3mm deep, blood everywhere and it took about 20 minutes for it to stop. anyway, later on i picked up my PSP for some Wipeout action and i realised i couldn't play it properly as my index finger rests on the R shoulder button - exactly in the place where i slashed it. but i thought '...**** it.' and played on - this was silly thing no.2 as it hurt like a bastard afterwards. now my finger is throbbing like it was hit with a mallet ala Tom and Jerry, and yet i'm still playing the ****ing thing!

has anyone else gritted their teeth, braced for the G's and played videogames, no matter the physical distress it caused them? i'm thinking about putting Halo on later - and i just know it's going to kill me

My doctor reckons I might be getting arthritis so this kind of scenario is going to get fairly common for me I fear . Playing Mario Kart DS at the moment is probably just making matters worse as well.

I want to spend more time with Mario Kart DS but have to limit my sessions to no more than a hour, its not worth the pain.

My left hand was slashed, required surgery and 12 stitches. Wound was about 1/2 inch deep being pesimistic and full length of my palm. Required a plaster.

I was off work for about 4 wks(work in a office) so played psone at the time and it was really sore, extreme burning sensation after 10 mins, I played for about 30 mins then stoped for 30 mins to let the pain go away.

Never did me any harm really, just fu**ing sore

Due to a rather embarrasing thumb-not-coming-out-of-the-hole bowling accident a few years ago, I've got a mis-set thumb on my right hand... mainly due to the doctor failing to recognise that it was broken and telling me to stop being a pussy.

The upshot is that if I play games that need extensive and rapid pressing of a console's face buttons (Tony Hawk, DMC etc), I'm in absolute agony after about an hour. As a side note, I can't actually touch the far side of my palm with that thumb either!

Sit further back. If you can't focus on the screen and you're 2 metres away or closer, you need glasses. Or you might be sitting too far back and straining your eyes trying to focus.

                  It is fella, it is!!

I`ll tell you what though lads. When I first started playing MKDS, my hands really started to hurt, although when I play any game I could easilly play form the second I get up to when I go to bed, no worries. Anyway, I`ve now noticed that it odesn`t hurt at all to play MKDS, I guess that you just get used to it.

With Katamari Damacy and especially We Love Katamari Damacy, I nearly wore the skin off both my thumbs.
I put on a couple of band aids and still had to keep replacing them as I wore them out.

Same here. It killed to play - but it was such a great game (I had Zero 3) you just played through it. I still think that it is one of the best versions of Street Fighter. I've never had blisters on my thumbs since then - must have grown immune!

I saw the subject and MKDS was the first thing I thought of!

When it came to sore thumbs from playing games i always found a drop of alcohol on the ends of the thumb helped it hardens the skin

My diagnosis would be an improperly set TV. I can't believe how high some people have the contrast. In a dark room, get a full-white screen and turn it down to at least 50% keep turning it down until you can look at it without squinting. (could be as low as 15-25%) You may have to raise brightness to compensate, but this is likely the cause.

EDIT: Oh, and you're probably not blinking enough.
