The Idiots guide to getting on 360 Live..

Ok, i have never taken a console on-line before, i promised myself months and months ago that when i get a xbox 360 i would do this, i know this is what i want now.

I've read i don't need a harddrive to access live (good! as i don't have one just yet (i understand downloads might be restricted or not allowed)

I'm looking for an idiots guide, simple step by step instructions on what i have to buy, including cables and all that kind of stuff, subscriptions, all things i have read before but don't know how to put it together.

I promise that all help will be appreciated and i will be writing everything down too and making sure this happens, i've already spoken to 3 people on this forum asking me if i on-line or did i have a gamertag, and i'd love to be able to play with/against and talk to people off here, maybe have a go at taking some yanks out! all part of the fun (i think!)

Like i said, it is appreciated, i feel if i find a link and read it, i'll get lost in the jargon and then prolong doing what i want to do(on-line gaming)

I have a little bit of money save for my HDTV, but i can dip into that to get on-line, its not a problem.

You don't need a hard drive, but you do need a memory unit.

How is your internet connection setup at home? Do you have an ADSL modem plugged into your PC, or do you have a combined router/modem/switch? That will affect what sort of cable you need to buy and also if you need to do any other config to your PC for example.

Don't be put off though, getting onto Live should be nice and straightforward.
