    Scratched Discs

Not wishing to piss on anyone's parade.

One has to ask though, why would anyone need to move the machine while it's playing?

To be fair it's common sense not to move the machine with discs in!

I'd be worried if it happened on it's own, but moving it like that is just asking for trouble!

I agree you should not move it while its loading or on.. i bet it even says it in manual somewhere.

But to be honest someone said when they knocked it slight the same thing happend. Its a bit too sensative I think and extreme.
Scratch yea.. but that sounds like and looks like a bloody razer blade has been at it!!!

Makes you worrie to carry the 360 around................................I was hoping to do LAns with mine but stuff that incase the cpu falls off LOL.

Whats in it to scratch it like that anyway??

Doing the fix voids your warranty doesnt it?

Makes me laugh how they highlight a problem where you have to actually go out of your way to make it happen, or just be a bit stupid in the first place!

Moving a console when it's on falls into the same common sense boundaries as sticking your hand in a fire, running with scissors, and pissing in the wind!

              Like the PSP disc-flying-out thing.

In a few weeks, no-one will remember this. Besides, seems silly to move the consoles orientation when the disc is in use and all that. Even if there wasn't this flaw in the drive, disc shift when the laser is active is bad enough.

This is why it tells you in the manual not to do it. This will happen to any CD/DVD/whatever based device.

I dunno. You'd think they'd put a safeguard in place. It's not entirely unreasonable to expect to be able to change the orientation while it's on.

I'm sure there's something in the manual telling you not to do this.

Oh, and it should be common sense for anyone who has half a brain cell and can figure out that the little silvery disc inside might just be spinning when the machine is on.

                  * Sheesh *

I'm sure it will still be blamed on Microsoft though and count as another faulty 360.

I can indeed confirm that the manual SPECIFICALLY STATES that you should not move it while it's playing a disc...

                      Yup, just checked that myself.

Netherless, it is a bit of a laugh to see the stupid guy having his Quake 4 disc ****ed up!

My PS2 did just as much damage to a disc when it was moved from vertical to horizontal while spinning. It's easily done, just get your son to knock it over with some force by tripping over the joypad cable.

Ever since, my machine lives permanently in horizontal mode, by the way.

Very stupid, couldn't he have just used a cd-rw or something?

Demo disc. Considering the pads were installed in the Xbox's first drive (which was crap otherwise...), why couldn't they put a couple in the 360's drive? It isn't too impossible to imagine the machine tipping from a bump. Should the disc be destroyed because the machine wobbled a little? It is a console, that goes under a TV, in a living room, and is played with. The machine just shows poor engineering all over the place.
