Say I dont want to use the mic when I play people online, is there anything at their end that would tell them Im not using a mic or is the lack of response from me in itself enough? If I turn off the option in audio prefs to stop people talking over a game, is that recognized their end?

Its not so much for when I play you guys, more so when I play random people elsewhere around the globe, sometimes I wanna just play and not chat, but want to be polite about it

I think it actually indicates when a player has a mic.

A lot of people don't use a mic, myself included.

On Xbox 1 if you unplugged the mic a little icon would disappear beside your name. Not sure if this is the same for 360...?

Games tend to have an icon for mic users. I know with Ridge Racer there is a speech bubble next to your name in the lobby. If you haven't got a mic plugged in, that speech bubble has a bit red X in it.

I know what you mean, sometimes I just wanna have a game of fifa while my wife is reading or something, I don't wanna chat to some Spanish (or whatever language) dude about it, just wanna play. Of course at other times I'll happily chat away with a fellow English speaking guy, even if it is only "oooohhh" or "nice one (bast)" or "wwwooooaaaaah!!!" or "ahem (sorry)".

I'm sure I've seen a microphone icon at some point though!

I don't have a headset but when I play Gotham I'm sure I still have the speaker icon next to my name. I've had ppl try and talk to me but there's nothing I can do to indicate my status.

Aye, it'd be nice if you could flag yourself as not chatting right now. It feels a bit rude when someone's speaking and you don't answer.
