Playstation and Nintendo image (please help me)

    Hey guys/and gals

I am doing a uni assignment (marketing) on the public images of Playstation and Nintendo.

I would be grateful for some comments from you guys on how you see the Playstation and Nintendo brands. I want you to be honist if you see Nintendo as kiddy and Sony as cool then please say so.

And please no flame wars or negative comments about anybodyelses posts it is what they think and everybody should be entitled to an opinion.

I would say the public image of Playstation (Sony) started out as a pretty cool image, they attempted to destroy the stereotype of the gamer by showing cool young hip adults playing there PS and being funky

Over the last year I think their image has been really hit bad by the way theyve been policing the whole PAL/NTSC side of things, what with suing people for improting etc etc they just made themselves look bad

Nintendo on the other hand I think have always had a slightly Fun atmosphere around them, I think a lot of people confuse this with being childish but I disagree Fun is Fun and that should be the #1 reason for gaming imo Nintendo do this well and over the past few months at least theyve shown that theyve still got a lot of life left in them

Might be better to ask some non- or very casual gamers this question in order to get more of a balance. We know too much around here, which will skew the responses.

Parents know hand-helds and home consoles as gameboys and playstations respectively. Jobs done. Nintendo are seen as child safe, MS as adult. The marketing campaigns for the next 12 months will be very interesting to watch.

            i am asking a mix.

Also its is not about getting somebody to do my homework it is about me getting quotes i can use for my final year university assignment.

Everybody know that Sony and Nintendo have sterotypes i just need you guys to say what you think they are so i can take a quote and say this is what X, Y, and Z thought and this backs up the image that Nintendo/Playstation has of being......

Sony are evil megalomaniac scum.. But with their marketing, they could probabaly sell their music systems to the deaf if they wanted... Marketing and the fact that they now have the world convinced that "Playstation = videogames" is the only reason they sell so many consoles really.

Nintendo seem to like good gameplay... and stumpy little chracters who make funny noises...

I see Sony's advertising as irritatingly pretentious.

Nintendo, especially Nintendo of America, doesn't seem to take itself too seriously and seems to enjoy dressing people up in ridiculous costumes

Interestingly if we're talking about Sony and its desire to make the world think "PlayStation" whenever it thinks "videogames"... they did this so successfully with the Walkman that, in Germany for example, a court ruled that the trademark had become so genericised because of people referring to personal CD players etc as "Walkmans" (much like vacuums and Hoovers - a metonym) that any company could call their product a Walkman.

Sony were still contesting this decision (funnily enough) the last I read.
