Seeing that Top Spin 2 is being released in Jan, and that the Spanish nintendo mag has even printed images of the box artwork (they are giving away 5 copies) I am surprised to find it so damn hard to get any proper info on this game. All I have seen are shots of the GBA game, which worries me, as I fear that the DS will be an almost exact copy, plus a little extra screen "bonus".
Does anyone know any specific details on the DS version? Will the court be separated so that each screen gets one side of the court? Will the physics be similar to those of the original Xbox game? Or will it be yet another crappy unsatisfying handheld tennis game?
I came across a site that does flash games, Gamesdesign I think. They have a tennis game and it is probably better than any handheld tennis game I have played, bar Top Ranking Tennis and Snoopy tennis. It is like a Super Tennis style game, and....shock horror, you can actually MAKE ERRORS in this game. I am fed up with tennis games in which errors are harder to make than winners. If someone can come up with a highly playable flash sim then there is no reason why it cannot be done on a handheld like the DS. I should be really hyped up for Topspin DS but I just know I am going to be disappointed, I have been so many times before with tennis games.
Changing subject slightly....I have been reading about the possibilites of playing tennis on the Revolution with the new controller. I am sure it would feel gratifying to whack the controller as if it were a tennis raquet, but surely it would require too much physical effort when taking spin and angle shots into account. I would LOVE there to be a fantastic tennis game which uses the controller in a unique way but I just cant get my head around a way that would playable for a long stretch of time AND be a deep control system at the same time. I know tennis games arent that big news on this site but has anyone else been thinking about this?
Also I am still not sure if I want a 2 screen tennis game or not, I just know for sure that I want to try it! What worries me abot Topspin 2 DS is the possibility that it does NOTHING to take advantage of the 2 screens in terms of gameplay, transforming it into yet another wasted opportunity for a handheld tennis game.
