You don't like games anymore? Good, go read your manga instead of making petty and pointless points.

The 360 improves upon the Xbox ten fold, if you can't see that, then obviously it's back to the manga for you sir.
No type of media has to mean anything. But some people enjoy if their books, films, anime, games and media want to be more than just entertainment. Like homersexualitly explored in Fable, Domesic abuse explored in Killer 7, Toppoling the goverment in Eminem's Mosh, a look behind America's gun culture in Bowling for Colimbine. Media can be powerfull, emotive and intresting, why can't games explore more complex issues or have soething to say?

I agree with what Muse Hunter is saying and I dont understand why everyone is jumping down his throat.

This thread was getting on my tits, but at least I've discovered that intriguing Rule of Rose. Thanks whoever posted it.

Well, people are basically using one sentence against him and ignoring his overall point.. It's not like anyone's suggesting that you shoehorn homoeroticism into Tetris or anything (though the 4 block line would be easy to alter), but if storyline-driven games wish to be taken seriously they have to represent reality much more than they currently do. It's not just gay relationships, relationships in general are hardly ever dealt with well.

It's a vicious circle, most games are aimed predominantly at emotionally immature teenagers so that's who keeps buying them. So they continue to be aimed at them. It'd take a prolonged effort by the whole industry to really progress the artform of storytelling in games, but there's no way it'll happen. The industry can sustain itself as it is, so why would they take the risk?

I feel exactly the same way. The introduction of stories, cutscenes and level hubs into games that don't need them is so pointless. I think the Sonic series has suffered the most from it.

What happened to pressing start at the title screen and instantly being able to play?

All that happened was somebody grabbed the kid, which to me suggested a kidnapping and then at the end another girl is getting tied down......I can think of much more disturbing things coming from the genre of survival horror.
So you missed the young girl raising her skirt a little too high with a cheeky smirk, the man peeping through the gap in the door at children playing, the first person camera approaching from behind and looking down at the childrens legs as they colour, oh and the girl getting urinated on.....yip, sure, just your average survival horror right there.

Saying people want an in depth study of the issues of homesexuality in today's modern world with a strong leading lady that is portrayed as a lesbian that has an adult relationship backdropped by a vicious and ruthless political climate where the group must topple them... In Mario 128 is a loon!

I'm not suggessting that every game adhere to this, I'm just saying why not want games, where a more deeper and richer character story can be told, to tell deeper stories and be more involving than they already are?

Shenmue, Fable, Half Life 2, Ico, Farenheight are excellent games that excelled with a diffrent gameplay mechanic. Emotion. I love Devil May Cry 3 as much as anyone, and one of my most played games this gen is P.N.03 but I love to sit down and play an emotional and adult, story based game.

I believe Muse is unfair to compare Manga to Games as Maga's sole purpose is to tell a tale. Games have to be interactive and compelling.

You daft fool, this is a common ailment. The common cure is of course spending some time in the retro pool. Works wonders. Try out a few classics you've never ever played before (Star Control 2 is good if you want emotion and quality scripting), and then when you've rested your bones with something that has a few pixelated sprites in it, all should be well again (or just go through a few Dreamcast titles, and pretend it never died!).

                Worked for me!

I am bwing serious here....your symptoms sound very much like a mild depression and it would be worth discussing it with your GP. One of the first and most prominent symptoms of depression is not getting pleasure out of things that you used to enjoy, the symptom is called anhedonia.

I ,ay be well of the ball here but it's worth a thought, especially if you are having difficulty sleepy, feeling anxious about things, fatigued, and struggling to concentrate on complex games or films.

I hope it's not depression though, as a sufferer, it's living hell and robs me of my gaming pleasure for month's when I have a bout of it.

Also, the 360 is a fantastic new platform with tonnes of potenial for taking gaming forward, could you please give MS more than a month to show you that.

I'm down with Mofoman here, it sounds like you're overanalysing in a negative way or not enjoying simply because you've done too much of it lately and need something different, which is why I said shut the **** up and play some 16-bit
I get the same, I suffer from mild depression which is due to other reasons (money, job, and others) that are gradually being sorted out but I try not to let it affect the things I enjoy, gaming being one of them. If I feel like I should be enjoying a game or certain genre but I'm not at that point I put it down and play something fun, which more often than not happens to be something on the SNES or Megadrive. Or Mr Driller.
You're right to try something new (anim?), but you don't need to drop gaming altogether. Still, if you give it a miss for a couple of weeks you'll probably get the urge again so you should be ok.

Some people obviously want games to have some deep-rooted emotional ambience. Sony played on this with all the ' Emotion Engine ' hype. The fact there is never going to be a chip that instills a game with real emotional substance.

Emotion comes from interaction, from achieving things with-in the game. I like racing games because they get my adrenaline rushing, and when I beat my rivals I get a strong emotional feeling of satisfaction. All games play on emotion, and all of this emotion comes from interaction.

I guess most people who want games to passively convey emotion are looking in the wrong place. Watching Anime, Movies is what these people must really want. They obviously don't want to achieve emotional states through interaction.

I enjoy films for the passive relaxing journeys they offer. I am the voyeur and the movie gives to me. When I want a challenge and some competition I play a game though.

When VR is produced, or holodecks exist, people will be able to take part in emotional realistic pursuits. Games will always exist though, because people enjoy the thrills they offer!
