I have given up collecting games and it feels good ;)

Seriously, I have stopped collecting games, in fact I have more than stopped collecting them, I have sold the ones that I know I wont play anymore !!

I only buy a game now if I really want to play it, I have far less clutter and more importantly I find that I actually play the games I have now rather than sticking it on for 10 mins then leaving it to get back on forums and ebay looking for the next purchase.

i now feel like I have come out of a 15 year video game buying addiction

    Anyone else quit ?????

    I quit ages ago

It's FAR more rewarding to work at a few really good games and become really good at them rather than barely scratch the surface of many.

      No chance.

I've done it in the past myself and ended up paying over the odds for replacements when i realised i wanted them all back again.

But, good luck to you. It'd certainly make life cheaper if i could manage it but i've already tried and failed.

I have stopped collecting and I sold off a lot of games I know wont get played anymore. I havent managed to reduce the number of games I buy yet though, but it doesnt really matter too much as I just sell the ones I am finished with or did not enjoy.

i have also stopped collecting for collectings sake and im currently clearing out all the stuff i dont need or want, its a very cleansing experience, id been hoarding tat before i came to this board but sinc eive realised i dont need half the stuff in my cupboards, gaming is about playing the games not how many u own or what they are worth, and as someone else said, wise words saur

I finish games then get rid of them immediately. I'll keep something with an absurd amount of replay value of course.

I think Soul Calibur and Goldeneye hold the record.

By the time (if ever) I want to replay a game, usually years later, chances are it'll be 50p in CEX.

Dumping old stuff really is cleansing.

Now comics though......From my cold dead hands..........

I stopped collecting last year. Just can't see the point, games are for playing, not hoarding. I've sold loads of unwanted games over the last few months and i'm currently down to 22 (XB,PS2,GC) from god knows how many.

As a couple of people have said, its much better to play and perfect a few decent games rather than skim the surface with a lot of average one's, so anything i consider average or worse i get rid.

I recently reassessed this myself, and got shot of FFX and DMC from my PS2 collection as I realised that keeping hold of them just because they were high-profile games was ridiculous, and could lead to some embarassing exchanges with someone perusing my titles "Ah, you have FFX and DMC, how far are you in on them?" "Erm, I don't play them really", "Then why do you still own them?" "Excellent question".

I've now got a far smaller collection of games I truly enjoy and which I feel reflect my personal taste. I'm not about to get rid of Hunter on the XBox because many people saw it as sub-standard, same for Twisted Metal:Black, as they are both games I still enjoy and to ditch them for faceless approval would be as pointless as holding onto 'AAA' titles which do nothing for me.

I've also started getting rid of some of my collection that will never see the light of pixels again, which has made me a tidy little sum so far (4000% profit on Snatcher on Mega CD!). There are a few things that I'll be holding on to, such as my Neo Geo Pocket Color and Dreamcast stuff, but I won't be hording for the hordings sake anymore.

I'm in the middle of getting rid of half of mine.

Ebay is going through a mad spell at the moment, so now is as good a time as any to shift the stuff you don't need any more.

good words and exactly how I feel.

but I have to blame you for my new addiction Saurian !!!! VF4 Evo.

It was reading your words, which were obviously written with a passion, that got me to try this game, and I have only had it for just over a week and I am totally hooked.

But I am enjoying every minute of it, I know I have only scrathched the surface but the more time I give it the more it seems to give back.
Now if I was still buying **** loads of games I would have probably written this game off by now because half a dozen more titles would have fallen through my letterbox since it arrived and it would be the 7th game down the pile.

I don't seem to be saving any money what with things like inital D out this month, which obviously needs you to buy the wheel , and then 1080degrees, r-type final, viewtiful Joe, F-Zero, Warioland etc. etc. etc. but the games will be sold to fund new stuff and make space.

It's sometimes hard but I really try to sell games I don't play. That's what they're for, not admiring on ones shelf.

The only negative aspect is that it can be hard to find the games at a later date. It's not a like a book, once its gone its gone.

Thankfully, emulation has changed that. I now can play all those difficult to accuire N64, PS, Saturn and older games without all the hassle. I never miss the packaging for a second.

Amen, E.t. Matrix went this weekend to a bloke. I don't sit longer on game than necessary.
