Little Big Adventure - any fans?

I remembered about this classic a few months back and sought out a copy. Damn, I love this game! Even a decade on, it's still laden with charm and personality. For me, the game's atmosphere still succeeds in bringing the magic, even played today. The love the developers poured into the game's construction just shines through in every aspect of it.

It seems it was made at a very specific point in time... when the 'modern' luxuries of fluid 3D animation, voice-acted dialogue and full motion cutscenes were just becoming available... but dev teams were still small and independent enough to make barmy, imaginative, truly individual titles.

For those who haven't played it, it feels strongly reminiscent of BG&E. If you enjoyed BG&E, chances are you'd love this too.... LBA really feels like BG&E's spiritual grandaddy. Both games share a similar gallic style and charm.

Anyway, I started wondering what happened to this series. With the likes of Farenheight, Dreamfall and Broken Sword 3 surfacing recently, this seems to be the era of the adventure game revival. So surely it's about time this classic game got an update?

After doing a bit of sniffing about, it seems the prospects are actually good for another episode sometime in the future. It turns out the LBA series still has a large (and vocal) fan following, ten years on. And some of these fans have been in contact with Frederick Raynal, the game's original designer (incidentally also the architect of the survival horror genre with 'Alone in the Dark'). They're currently promoting the news that Raynal is recruiting for a new company, Ludoid, and is discussing several game ideas with publishers. Among them is said to be LBA3! Could it happen...?

Personally I would love to see another entry in this series. Here's hoping it happens, eh?

Aye, I loved LBA. Only played the PS1 version, but it felt so different to anything I'd played before, or since for that matter. Definitely one of the most charming games of its time.

I don't really remember that much about the game if I think about it, bar the prison-break at the start, that ball thing, and swaggering about looking drunk...might have to try and find another copy to play through. Never got around to playing the sequel either; was it any good?

one of the few pc games i bothered with on my old pentium 100 setup. loved it, even tho the final boss battle was frankly pathetic ... I remember just holding fire and a direction to repeatedly stun the final boss with the ball, and about five minutes later he keeled over.

Absolutely loved this. It was such a unique experience, one of the most immersive games I have ever played. The prison break and feeling of being a fugitive were brilliantly done.

            My favourite PC game.

Aye I absolutely LOVED the 2 LBA games as a kid. I still have the theme tune MP3 on my computer to this day.

One of the main reasons I bought a new computer at the time was to play LBA 2

didn't Adeline Software become the now defunct No Cliche?

Yes, yes they did. I think that Toy Commander was the only game that they ever produced.
Never got a chance to play it, either.

                            OT perhaps

This may be a bit off-topic by after having played Another Code:Trace Memories last year, I'm convinced that the Broken Swords, Money Islands, Grim Fandangos should be brought to the DS forthwith!

How great would all these point and click adventures be on the DS? Even LBA style controls would be just great on the Nintendo wonder. Don't bother adding too many new features or content, just port the damn things!

Indeed. Give us some more classic adventuring on DS.

Who knows... maybe Ludoid will port LBA to DS at some point in the future, in order to give the brand a bit of publicity before a threequel arrives...
