What I don't quite understand here is, while you may want to hold on yourself until it's at a price you want to buy it at (although with this sort of game I find they vanish before they ever go down in price), why you would urge others to do the same? What is your logic here? What does it matter to you if people buy it or not?

If anything, as people have said, you should want others supporting it. I just don't get it.

Indeed. Doesn't the initial reaction to a game determine whether further batches are printed? The OP's suggestion could make the game R@R3!!!

My point is: nobody is buying it, anything we do now is irrelevant as regards the future of such innovative games. The damage has been done by the marketing mess ups and the fact the game has arrived in the UK months late. The less people who buy it on release the quicker the price will drop.

The idea that we should pay out larger sums of money than necessary to, in some vague, unspecified way, encourage more original games is laughable. Games are already over-priced because we're paying for all those crap titles which don't sell in the costs we're charged for those that do.

If I can get a game for ?17.99 or less because the publishers have done a rubbish job I'm not going to feel guilty. It's a perk of having good taste and paying out more than my fair share on all thoser 'full' price titles I buy every year.

Including the necessary hardware, this game cost me close to 200 pounds and it was actually worth it. I was in a great mood anyway, but this is just such an uplifting game.

"They're going to have a hell of a job just recouping the costs of their pre-Xmas marketing campaign, which carpet-bombed SKY primetime for about 3 weeks. What a splendid **** up."
That is quite possibly the most hilariously worded thing I have ever read on the internet

I want to agree with you, I really do. But when (a) it's twice the price of a US copy from VGP, and (b) absolutely no-one is prepared to get any in stock for me to purchase anyway, it really is tough to justify a PAL one.

I can see what you're saying in respect to the price and it being shocking that it's twice the price of a US copy, but if the game is good enough, then surely it justifies any price (and in the case of Katamari, it is good enough to justify the price.)

Weirdest thread ever. Gaming isn't a cheap hobby. If you don't want it full price, get it 2nd hand, rather than trying to persuade other people to not buy what the want. Or..... get a different hobby. Running is pretty cheap.

I bought Psychonauts on import on its US release and loved it. After reading this thread, I'm tempted to buy a PAL copy just to keep the price higher for longer.

Although not buying the game is unlikely to impact on development, it will impact on future distribution. You might not be happy with the way the game has been released over here, but at least it has been released unlike some other titles.

Boycotting the game on release is nuts. Its only going to have a detrimental effect on other more left field games getting a PAL release, which will in turn keep prices higher as exclusive imports keep their value much longer.

And all so you can get the game a tenner cheaper.

At least with Katamari, I'm not boycotting, really. I tried going to shops (plural) to buy a UK copy last weekend. Not one had bothered to get one in stock. So if I'm going to have to order online anyway, it seems completely nuts to pay ?10+ extra just to make EA feel warm and fuzzy.

Katamari Damacy is an utterly wonderful game, and I'd happily pay ?40 for it, if that was what the game cost. This isn't about me not thinking the game is worth ?40, but whether supporting EA and my "local" Amazon is worth paying a surplus.

                          Ooops. Don't mind me, then.

For the record, if/when I buy Psychonauts (the thing just isn't tempting me enough right now, when I've got a huge pile of unplayed games) I'll be buying a UK copy.

Arrogant attititude that mate. ?5+ might be chicken feed to you but to some us it's a bit more significant.

Gaming is expensive, you don't need to tell me that. As said, I do more than my fair to keep game publishers and their shareholders happy. But I find it utterly bizarre that some people here are criticising this thread just because it's suggesting a way of saving money.

I would argue that if games were actually priced more reasonably from the start (around ?20) they would sell more, encourage consumers to take risks on less familiar game types and, maybe make more profit in the long run..

?40 for a decent 20 hr game is super value for money. If I get a DVD on release, it's nearly 20 quid for just 2 hours entertainment. If you want games for ?20, there's the NES gba releases, which sold in spades. But, if you want a more in depth gaming experience cough up the extra.
