Should I keep my PSP or get a DS (again)?

Firstly, I apologise if this should be in the "ask the forum" forum, but its more related to the systems actual games so I wasn't sure!

Long story short I had an original DS and it was nicked whilst on holiday. I was gutted (obviously) but used the insurance money to get a PSP (after much thought, I always said I'd never buy a PSP but I just had a moment of weakness).

Now, with the DS Lite showing its face I'm getting that itch again.

At the moment I literally ONLY play Pro Evo and sometimes Mercury...I don't use the PSP for music (my phone covers that) and I have never, and will never watch a UMD on it (just don't have the need to).

I don't see any games on the horizon I want, Lemmings maybe but not really bothered since I thrashed the game to death when it was out all those years ago! Street Fighter I could say the same for...Gran Tourismo doesn't float my boat either...

However, I was always gonna keep my DS (I enjoyed it anyway) because I wanted Mario Kart, Mario Bros (I know they are remakes as such as well but they are remakes that interested me). Now with the reviews of Resi Evil Deadly Silence literally making my pants wet I'm getting the itch even worse.

The DS I always said was the most innovative gaming system I'd seen in since I was a kid, but something stopped me getting another one when mine was stolen.

I do like the PSP and it's cool as you like but there just (for me anyway) aren't enough good games to keep me coming back to it for anything other than the 10th season of Pro Evo in a row. Oh and for the record, when a 360 CLUB football game is out, I doubt I'll even play Pro Evo 5 on the PSP either!

So, in my position, would you get a DS or stick with the PSP? Is there some PSP goodness coming in the future that I don't know of? As I said, the DS Resi Evil is making me want it SO much more than I thought I would, along with Mario Kart and Nintendogs (that I never got to play cos they came out just after mine was nicked) I feel like I've missed out on the best the DS has to offer, yet I still loved it.

I know it sounds like I've made my decision but I really haven't, which is why I'm typing all this...

    Opinions please?

If you are into one or the other, any chance you could list say your top 5 games on the system (or each if you have both) so I could gauge a better view on the games? Ta.

For the record, my fav PSP games are/were : Hot Shots Golf, Ridge Racer, Pro Evo 5 and Mercury. I've played most of the games there are, and nothing has kept me going. For DS (when I had one a while back) my favs were : Kirby's Canvass Curse, Mario 64 DS, Yoshi's touch...etc. There wasn't a lot out when I had one!

You have to make up your own mind, all you'll get here is a load of fanboy ranting one way or the other.

I only have a PSP, but your list of games doesn't include my favourites (Lumines and Metal Gear Acid) so in my opinion you've not seen it all by any means.

I'm also getting into the video/music side of things in a big way, I plan on making the most of the portability. If you're not fussed about any of that though, a PSP might be overkill.

I spent months deciding which of these two consoles to get and in the end I went for the DS and im glad I did, a lot of the peeps who had PSP's when i was deciding have sold theirs on due to them not playign them enough

Im a bit of a nintendo fan boy but i really love the DS, its such a good system and the games for it are the best

In the last few months ive had some of the best gaming moments in a long long time

If i was to rank my favourite 5 just now i would say

      Mario Kart DS
      Animal Crossing
      Advance Wars
      Mario and Luigi 2
Traumu Centre (in fact i aint played this in a while so ill load it up )

see thats what i love about it, each one of these games are different yet they are so well done and addictive

SO far on the psp only mercury, lumines and maybe GTA have came this close

The best advice I could give you sounds obvious but there really is nothing better you can do that make a list of all the games you're interested in for each system then decide which list appeals to you more. I personally would go with the DS everytime. I actually had a PSP for about 6 months but ended up selling it. Most of the games on it are really the kind of stuff you get on a console and was therefore pretty redundant for me as I'm the kind of person that doesn't buy handhelds because they're portable but for the different games they offer that consoles don't have which the DS has in spades. I do miss Lumines now and again but I don't regret selling it and apart from the odd game here and there the PSP library still doesn't appeal to me.

That said it'll be hard to resist getting one again when Powerstone comes out

I thought Lumines was okay (my wife liked it but it didn't even keep her interested and she loves her handheld puzzlers) and I have Metal Gear Acid!...Did about 3 levels and got bored senseless of it.

A friend at work is getting into the video/music side in a big way too but I just imagine that's because she lives with someone who isn't into the same stuff as her? If I want to watch a DVD or listen to music, I'll do that on my 5.1 setup with my big TV and my wife will enjoy it with me (we have the same tastes in music/films etc) so I dunno...

I still want opinions, fanboy or not because I really can't make my mind up. I do feel like the PSP is wasted on me, but I just think it's too big for an mp3 player and my phone is perfect...I can't imagine delivering people's post with a PSP sticking out of my top pocket! I already have back troubles as it is!

EDIT: Powerstone is about the only game I would want, because it's brilliant, but the speed and nature of the game makes me think it might not work on a screen so small anyway...I could live without Powerstone if it meant Portable Resi etc!

I don't want to fall into the trap of getting a DS just for Resi, cos that won't last me forever!

I don't know that much about handhelds, not been into them really since the GBA SP, just been casual user...so I don't know the best games on each system to be honest, thats why I'm asking.

Keep it, things are already looking up on the software front and by the time the ps3 arrives psp development is going to look a great deal more finnacialy apealing to many dev's. You can always save for a ds too.

                Darwock speaks the truth.

As for me, I have both and I wouldn't give either up.

The PSP is the only console I regret buying and I have been considering selling it for the last few weeks to fund my DS game buying spree. When I think about the amount of money I paid for the machine, the 1GB memory stick and games I wince. My PSP collections is as follows:

PSP Value Pack (1 stuck and 1 dead pixel)
1GB SanDisk Pro Duo Memory Stick
                  Metal Gear Ac!d (EU)
                  Tales of Eternia (EU)
Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix (US)
                  Lumines (EU)
                  Wipeout Pure (EU)
                  Ridge Racer (EU)
                  Everybody's Golf (EU)
                  Spiderman 2 (EU UMD)

Any ideas on what people think that collection is worth?

What's it worth? Why, nothing at all! the PSP is nothing but a piece of spit on the floor of the toilet the Nintendo DS designers used the last time they went to take a piss on the night they celebrated their creation. Haven't you learnt that yet?

For the record, so far reading the replies there are 5 GAMES I want for the DS straight away (done a bit of research review wise...)

                        Mario Kart
                        Resi Evil
                        Animal Crossing
                        Nanostray
                        Advance Wars

                        I want those right now!

Well personally I think Nanostray is pox but, if you want those games, then your best option is to get a DS. Certainly the others on your list won't disappoint if you know what you're getting.

Nanostray is a great old skool shmup.

If you can't be arsed with the complexities of modern shooters, its a breath of fresh air.
