Nah, that depends on the cable. Only true scart cables will automatically switch the TV to scart, like, official ones. None of the shoddy AV -> Scart adapters that come with the console do that though. And most 3rd party scart cables won't switch either.

Though it's laughable that they can't figure out that you have to switch the TV to AV. I mean, how many buttons must there be on a remote? Not that many.... just trial and error, really.

<Me> *sigh* Plug it into the rectangle like box, and press AV.
<customer> what's AV? and where is it?
<Me> *harder sigh* AV is a higher quality picture for your TV, and it's usually a little circle with an arrow in it.

<Customer> Hi it's me again, i cant get it working, can you come out and do it for me?
<Me> No, we dont provide that service, consult your Television manual or call the make of your TV. *FUME*
I hope you dont mate cos that would **** me right off if i was asking for someones help. No offence. (and I worked in retail for about 3 years and i know people can be stupid but theres no need to give them attitude)

      Anyway back on topic......

I was thinking of copying my original version of Initial D (and GT3 and Time Crisis2) when it comes so i can link up my 2 PS2s...whats the legality of this if you already own a proper copy? I dont have single copied game in my collection btw.

To my knowledge you can't play one game while a copy of it is being played. You also can't listen to a copy off a cd in a car while someone else is listening to the original copy say at home or somewhere.

It's all well and good bashing piracy like this, but how many of you have GBA roms on your PC or Xbox? Personally I'll only emulate/pirate machines that aren't in production anymore.

Yeah. It's possible that Piracy is good in some ways. The Playstation Piracy touches on that. I think that you should be allowed to say that Piracy is good if you believe it is so. But giving people advise on how to break the law by piracy shouldn't be allowed on the forum.

we been asked that at currys a surprising number of times.

I dont think this is the case tbh. How do they know they are playing, radio link or something?

I remember Gord (www.actsofgord.com) recounting a story about someone who wanted him to chip his PSOne to play pirate games.

His response was something like "So you want me to modify your machine so you can pirate games rather than buy them from my shop?"

Its a bit silly isn't it. Funny thing is though, a lot of people think that its their god given right to copy games that are still in production.

"But, Sony/MS/Nintendo already got my money when I bought their machine right?"

And the irony being that the VHS tape of the first one would cost them less than that in HMV.

Thats what I really don't get when it comes to piracy. Its sometimes difficult to really see the harm in taping a CD for a mate, or getting images of a couple of Spectrum games from my youth, but at every local car boot sale or market you see people prepared to fork over serious cash to purchase bootleg films and CDs. Cash of the like where it wouldn't be much more expensive to buy the real ones, if only they would order online or wait a couple of months.

On another note, as much as some High Street Retailers can employ staff that don't have a clue about what they are selling, I did feel for the poor guy in Currys recently while I was in there who was having to patiently explain to someone that the fact that the DVD player they had bought didn't play divxs and DVD-Rs he had bought from a boot sale didn't mean it was broken, or that he had been mis-sold it. Furthermore, No. He was not going to be able to test out all the DVD players in the shop on the big telly to confirm they played his pirated on divx porn film.

I beleive that once a record company or games company stops supply of a said title on that format, it should then be available in the public domain.

In otherwords if an album is discontinued on cd, it should then be allowed to do the rounds via mp3 etc.
The record company my release an enhanced version at a later date on sacd or dvd-a, but then people, like myself, would buy that again beacause it offers somthing different, maybe higher resolution or multi channel. Again this would not be allowed to be distributed illegaly, only when it was discontinued on this format could we get it by downloading etc.

                            just a thought

Odd how this topic was allowed to stay up when it's apparently against the rules to even discuss piracy.
