Coupled with it's perfection of design of course.
That's the point. It's a perfect design, if it could be improved it would be. Physical form is just as open to change and variation, but in 3000 (give or take) years what do we have to compete? Stratego and Hungry Hippos.

Street Fighter games have remained largely unchanged for over a decade because SFII was pretty much the template for all that followed.

Tetris is perhaps the best example of a game which exists as an almost perfect videogame form.

But just because the game isn`t immune to technological change, doesn`t devalue the game at all.
My point is that if a game has reached perfection then its basic mechanics will not change because they cannot change or be improved upon other than superficial detail. Can you improve Tetris? Well if you did it wouldn't be Tetris. This assumption doesn't devalue anything it's just an observation. It certainly doesn't make gaming any less fun and gives us something to look forward to as well as enjoying the present.

imagine chess was invented today as a game for the GBA. It probably would be as obscure as any other game in 100 years time.
Worth taking a look at the chess review on UKR:

I agree that Chess is perfect for what it does, just like Tetris is perfect for what it does, but then so is VF4 Evo. Just because the game will change and evolve doesn`t mean it isn`t perfect. I love Chess and Tetris to bits, but I can confidently say I`ve never played a better game than Evo.

A game like Tetris works because of its pure simplicity.

VF evo is a very different beast. It `works` because of its beautifully balanced and incredibly deep combat system. The fact that VF will see changes doesn`t make VF an inferior game- it is really to do with the fact that there will be demand for a new game, they can add more properties to more of the moves, and they can allow more possibilities to the fighting engine and therefore allow even more complexities in high-level play, and because Sega can make a ****load of money from it. As far as I know, there is no demand to change Chess (or Tetris for that matter)

Just because Chess and Tetris are unchanged doesn`t necessarily make them better games. It really is down to the different natures and circumstances of VF and Chess/Tetris that changes take place.

in what way am i a "SCRUB" out of interest?, there 's no way to cheat in cvs2, if you mean i roll thats easy to counter, or my corner traps. You dont exaclty wow me with your predicable moves either

The only gameplay flaw i can think of in cvs2 is "roll cancel" but they were removed from the xbox version for being too cheap.

You're just a very bad loser, and it baffles me why you went out of your way to put me down when i beat you 90% of the time.
And if im ****, what are you? 6 - 0

It's not and given the choice of having a Tetris cabinet or a VF4E cabinet installed in my house, well, I'm not a frickin Luddite.

After an age of incremental changes surely a point will be reached where it cannot be improved any more. Every other addition to the franchise after that will just be prettier.

TBH, Jassi sounds like a very bad loser.

Jassi- Its irrelevent if you think hes being cheap. He isn`t technically cheating and if hes exploiting the flaws in the game (the game is flawed because it favours the player who plays defensively and `cheaply` rather than the player who goes on the attack), its the games fault and not his. Call up Capcom and express your grievances rather than call him a **** player.

                  Indeed.

There was no point in taking a worthwhile topic completely off tangent with pointless oneupmanship.
