Excitebike64 - ripe for online update

I was playing Excitebike64 this morning. Firstly, WHAT A GAME!
Secondly, I was looking at the racing and thinking that, if this was on Live, it would be superb. So I have my fingers crossed that we will get a new version for Wii that mixes the controls of Enduro Racer with the magic gameplay of Excitebike64.

If you haven't tried it, I've uploaded a video. The first bit shows the superb 3D reworking of the classic NES Excitebike (it'll make you stomach have that falling feeling) and a desert level from the main game, where you can see the tight racing that would work so well online.

You swine - one game I never got to play on my N64 and wouldn't work on Surreal(xbox) properly.

Still I'd welcome anything like that with online functionality

Same, It came a bit too late in the n64s life when i was too busy playing on my Dreamcast and I didn't fancy paying ?49.99 for it, same for Paper Mario and Conker.

I tried playing it recently, but the framerate hasn't aged well (along with many other n64 games).

Those MX games on the Xbox were pretty good, I wouldn't mind actually buying one this time round

Excitebike 64 is an outstanding game, but I can't see it ever getting a sequel (definately not on Wii, anyway).

It's a shame there was no sequel to it on the GameCube, but it probably would have been made by NSTC who would have no-doubt ruined everything that made it playable anyway .

MX vs ATV is superb - and it runs at 720p I believe !!!

And it's live - though it's probably dead by now but you could prbos get it for a tenner or so !!!

They did a good job of 1080 avalanche. I'd be more than happy with a similarly styled Excitebike update by NST.

Well, Wave Race Blue Storm isn't that bad, I'm being dramatic, but I'm the kind of player who is more than happy playing the original if it means it offers the better experience. Am I going to be dissapointed with Avalanche considering I love the no-frills racing and perfect control of 1080?

But anyway...Excitebike 64...I'd be more than happy with a 60fps update of this for the Cube.

Excitebike 64 is definitely the finest motcross game available, although it looks a little drab the frantic action and rock solid racing will keep you coming back to it.

Risking it for the shortcuts was class, they were so hard but doable after alot of work and practise!

1080 Avalanche was actually pretty good, I really enjoyed it, unlike Wave Race : BS which was a bit of a dud

It's absolutely great if you like Time Trial. The earlier boards are a bit slow, but once you unlock the later boards, the game flies. The sense of speed is superb. The time trial thread for it went on for months. It's a little bit different from the first game, but overall it's still definitely worth a purchase. I've got Wave Race BS but never play it, whereas I play 1080 avalanche and 1080 and the original wave race quite often.

Shweet! Ok, if I see Avalanche for a nice little price, I'm going to pick it up.

Does anyone know what the developers of Excitebike 64 (Left Field) are up to now? The last I saw of them, they were making poker games for the PS2 . A shame, as they were clearly a talented team before Nintendo let them go. Excitebike pushes the N64 really well in terms of graphics, still looks really nice, despite the framerate seeming a little choppy nowadays.

A big thumbs up for MX v ATV on the xbox , and yes it does do 720p which looks gorgeous.

Been playing it on my PSP as well which play are doing for 18 quid i think still.

Excitebike was amazing, definately one of my fave (single-player) racers on the console. Playing it on the higher levels, your fingers had to be flying over every button on the pad, or so it seemed like, but the controls were just so right. The perfect lap would feel downhill all the way. Inversely, a **** lap would feel like wading through mud.

I loved clipping the front wheel of other racers, sending them face-first into the dirt... in terms of satisfaction, that was second only to F-Zero X's "ding" of death

And remember popping a wheelie to skim across the shallow river? Class.

I don't think they'd be able to make a sequel to match it. They sure as hell didn't manage with Wave Race
