Anyone bought a game purely on what they see on the gamebox?

Used to do it many times during the spectrum days trouble was very soon i realised the screen shots on the back were usually not the spectrum version.

In the past few years though i have only done it twice when i was browsing in GAME

Morrowind: did not really know much about the game or the previous games but it just looked so good i thought i would get it thankfully it paid off

Breed:looked quite decent unfortunetly it was not in fact it was rubbish

Yeah Halo 2 looked really good.

Seriously. I bought Pariah, **** knows why. I also bought 24 the game. Not because it looked good, or because I thought the game would be good, in fact I knew it'd be a stinker. There's just no accountablility for a fanboys actions.

Not since the C64 days really - I kind of miss that, these days I read previews watch videos and can wait years for a game. With the C64 I just popped down to the computer shop each weekend with my brother and we each chose a game simply by looking at it. Some would be good, some wouldn't but overall it didn't really matter because we'd pick up more soon.

I was just talking about this with a friend the other day. You end up knowing too much about the games these days and know exactly what it is your getting. I used to love saving up my 50ps with my brother so we could pop down to medi-care and spend ?2.99 on feud or technician ted or whatever else for our spectrum, simply because we liked the look of the covers. So much fun to have no idea what you are going to get. This is all through rose tinted specs of course

The simple series on the ps2 gives me that long lost feeling.

              Yeah deffinately.

Gungage was one, I saw nothing in the press about it, just saw thw art and konami logo.......yet didnt have the ballz to lay down the cash........then it dissapeared, that sole one copy in game downtown.

About 3 months later ala kazam, it appeared again and snapped it up.

It was awsome, like the best 3d action game the saturn never had.

Aye, the C64 days, when you could buy a game play it once, and shelve it. My local newsagents stocked them budget range games for 3.99, so i used to go in there look at the back of the box, if the visuals looks good enough it was mine! lol.

I understand the thrill of jus poppin into a store and grabbin a cheap game cos it looked convincing. these days i can only do it if i actually happen to be in a game store, especially when its sale time. Like picking some cheap Xbox games for 1.99 or somat ridiculous sounding like that. But this only happens at the end of a consoles life. I used to do that in indie stores too, where id look at a jap game and think what the hell, as expensive as it was, the thrill of gettin a potential gem was too good a prospect to miss.

These days, i mainly go on the reccomendations of you guys on here lol! cos i dont get gaming mags or go into stores as much. Online buying has changed the way games are introduced to me. I guess those days of the c64 are replicated in some pseudo way through play.com's bargain bin. lol.

Heh, perhaps online stores should do a random purchase. You tell it what games you already have and what platforms you have and then it selects a random game for you.

yep i was a victim of that game, bought it when i was a kid, always used to buy games when i waa kid because of the gamebox, of course this flawed method caused me to buy primal rage, vortex, and of course rise of the robots, not to forget the countless master system ****e. I'm glad that now i have more knowledge in the area i can never be a victim to a ****e game ever again

I haven't done in years, pretty much not since I bought *cough*

                              Rise of the Robots

*cough* on the SNES. Now I read a couple of magazines and who-knows-how-many websites every month so I pretty much know what a game's like.

                              I can't believe I just admitted that...
