I'm not to sure which would be better of for microsoft in the long run tho,

having Lionhead and Rare out right producing games for microsoft and having GTA4 from day one like PS3

    or

not having Lionhead/rare but having having GTA4 exclusive

Its a tricky one to call - PDZ and Fable must have earned microsoft alot of money.

Maybe, but the first Fable was exclusive to Xbox anyway (not counting the later PC version) and can you really imagine that PDZ sold anywhere near as many 360s as GTA3 did PS2s? PDZ is pretty much gone from the charts already and isn't even in the top 10 most played Xbox Live games anymore, but GTA3 was the top selling game of 2001 and second best of 2002. Each new one is always a gaming event and I'm sure that exclusive GTA4 would sell more 360s than even Halo 3.

        Good points NekoFever

no doubting an exclusive GTA4 would sell **** loads of 360, its a chav fav and the game everykids wants to play,

but microsoft have got it on the 360, and with the right marketing they can say they have sony's biggest weapon, sony on the other hand can't say they have microsoft's biggest weapon - Halo.

Add in the amount of money microsoft would have had to put rockstars way, like you said that game sold millions of PS2 so god knows how much rockstar would have asked from microsoft.

i feel they made the right decision by buying up a few companies and still having GTA on their console.

But thats my view and i'm more excited about Fable 2, Viva Pinata and Halo 3 than any GTA game. And if microsoft can somehow get these games across to the dumb sony lovin public then microsoft could be onto a winner without having to pay rockstar some 500 million or whatever it would have taken.

Don't forget people that ther downloadable content WILL be 360 exclusive - And I think that could make a big difference to a lot of people - GTA-EVOLVED if you will

If anyone predicted that GTA3 was going to become as massive as it did, then I'll ask you for the lottery numbers for this weekend please.

GTA2 bombed at retail. I don't think anyone predicted that the game would become as good as it did, including Sony.

I'll be buying Takahashi's book. The last one (Opening the XBox) was an excellent warts and all tale.

Microsoft are really going to have to push the exclusive content to put a dent in the PS3, though. That has the hurdle of needing people to get online which is still something that the majority of console owners don't do. It'll keep getting bigger especially this generation, but I can't see online functionality being the be-all and end-all 18 months from now when GTA4 is out.
