What an utter load of arse.
    That's what we call "marketing"

Thing is although everyone is taking the piss out of it (sorry)They seem to be doing a great job of getting people talking about it.

I really dont mind the name change, sure its weird as hell but its not like id be going into any ****ty uk game shop to buy one in person anyway.

It might take a few years but you'll all get the wee jokes out of your system (note some may take a bit longer)

And to all the people shallow & vain enough to not buy it due to its new name. Great (^_^) it will mean less competiion for me when i get one on the japanese launch.

It's a daft name for sure, but ultimately I don't care - bring on the games.

If I recall correctly, people who insist on pronouncing Sega seeega (as people do sometimes) are actually using the Italian word for "wanker".

So there you go. Masturbatory polymath that I am.

I didn't know that - but I suspect a whole lot more people know what wii is, and it's far easier to pun. This is a huge marketting guff, it's a tabloid's dream tbh.

Possibly, but there is such thing as bad publicity. I mean who honestly can ever say they saw Battlefield Earth? I'm beginning to doubt the film even exists.

I genuinely don't think a name can make or break a console but, man, they're giving it a good go with 'Wii'. That's the test of all tests right there.

What I'm going to find interesting is how Reggie, a balls out kind of guy, is going to cope with telling everyone how much he love WEE at E3 (hey, that rhymes).
I'm guessing the interviews will surpass the Consolevania Reggie loves J Allard thing.

Plus I'm hoping this isn't going to start some kind of awful trend. If Sony decide to rename the PS3 to `Playstation der turd` then I'm quitting gaming forevar.

Possibly not, but it does put Nintendo in a position of riducule with that name, in English speaking countries at least. I don't doubt there will be some great games on the machine, but it is a badly chosen name.

                            Oh dear god....

Giant Japanese corporation torpedoes their own product with a stupid name that means piss in English, discuss...

I vote instead of calling it Wee Wee, we rename it Why. Why!!??!! Why!!!

I thought Nintendo were supposed to be the smartest games company out there? Suddendly that stupid banana controller on PS3 and the broken BC on 360 seem quite bright.

Seriously, I know its just a name, but I think this would stop me buying one.

There's a bad brand name, and then there's Wii....I mean, lets face it, games consoles rarely have genuinely great names, but Wii????? Does Nintendo honestly think that it is a brand name that can compete in the West?

Hopefully time will prove me wrong, but this just sounds ridiculous.

Not read the whole thread but I bet there's been mention of game names. Mario 64, Mario DS and now Mario Wee. Oh dear. Zelda Wee, Super Smash Brothers Wee...

How on earth can anyone think Wii Wee is a better name than Revolution?
