Since the muted GC launch I was really hoping Nintendo would do something really special for the launch. One of my most treasured gaming memories and probably the only time I've been speechless was when my mate came round with a JAP N64 and a copy of Mario. We both took the afternoon off work and just sat in slack-jawed wonderment. I don't think that's ever happened again and hence why the GC was a disappointment at first.
So even though it's being launched with what could be the best game EVER and that Nintendo has been working on for years it's not a big hitter?
I realize it's basically a cube game with extra controls but it's a Wii game none the less. It plays on wii and doesnt play on Gamecube. (apart from the gamecube version)

          Can you get any bigger?

It's got very impressive and beautiful visuals, a massive game world, full wii functionality with the controller. Which will probs be done well. A promised adventure taking more than 40 hours I think they said. More dungeons than Ocarina of time. etc. I can see it taking my number one spot.

It'd be very funny if they messed it up though and it was the worst game ever. If it was I'd probs sell my wii and never play a nintendo game/console again

Maybe not to people like us, but to the average punter in the street, I can assure you that a new Mario for example would be considered a much bigger draw than Zelda. Its a sad state of affairs, but I'm sure a lot of your average gamers would be unaware of the joys of Zelda these days.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but outside of more informed gamers like us, I really wouldn't consider a new Zelda game, however good, to be the sort of game that will make the Wii a must purchase.

So much love in this thread. I agree with some things said about Nintendo and I do wish they'd smarten themselves up a bit. Its a big disappointment not to have Mario or Metroid at release, and no mention of a PilotWings game yet either.

I'm even considering not getting a Wii until next year when Mario/Metroid both hit as it's alot of money to spend right now for something that only has Zelda that really interests me which I can get for Cube anyway.

If I had the money spare, I wouldnt mind buying into it straight away but right now, when every penny counts, I just don't see it as a worthwhile purchase until more games are out.

Well ocarina of time caused a massive rush of N64 sales when it came out. So much that it was in great shortage across the country & was like gold dust for months. I dont think all those copies were just bought by the hardcore.

As a interesting bit of history, this is going to be the first time ever (as far as im aware) that a zelda game has been a launch game for a nintendo console.

Personally im getting quite excited at the prospect of owning a wii. Bring on those shallow/kiddy/milked/rehased/gimmicky games nintendo, im ready to taste the delights of your wii

Thats the thing if you put off buying a wii now and bought one next August chances are you could get a console, 5 games including mario, zelda, metroid 3, smash bros and something else plus a couple controllers for ?300max. By then they'd have lots of virtual console games out and im sure some online multiplayer titles would be availble.

I really think they could help improove sales and popularity for VC if they did it like Xbox live with updated visuals (option to use them or original graphics), Online modes for games, scoreboards etc

Im going to wait myself. I really want to be in with the buzz when it launches and play Zelda right away but i'll have to wait, I really don't have the cash.

I also want to see how the US machines are in the UK and make sure that there's definitely no problems getting online.

On a side note, i'm extremely pissed of to hear that VC will be region locked as well. The fools at Nintendo HQ never fail to amaze me!

Lets face it, most people wouldn't buy a Wii cause its not cool and its a kiddy console, but they also said the same thing about the DS, and look where that is now?

                          Top of the tree.

I think the Wii could have the same effect on people as has the DS.

I really hope the feel good factor of the DS rubs off on the Wii but I'm not convinced it will. Here's hoping though.

Old news? I didn't know about the downloads being restricted to regions...

                              Wii upholds Cube region lock

Nintendo UK has confirmed that the Wii's region locking mechanism will be in full effect on Gamecube games too. Ninty reps also confirmed that Virtual Console titles will be specific to region, and European gamers will get European versions of titles.

So... How then does this fit with teh Freeloader I wonder?
I still have a 1.04 knocking around somewhere which may yet come in handy.
